Who the heck told you they was ducks in Vicksburg? I'd hunt 'em down and knock 'em in the head for telling stories like that. But if you really want to waste your time, scout, scout, scout. And if you finally find ducks you'll find what I did this morning, a big gawking blind built right in the middle of the da%^& hole!!!!!!!!!!

Well Vicksburg has been totally overrated....Let's see, over the last couple of years duck numbers have gone down in the area and hunters are stacked up. I'm talking the last 3 years, hunters every 250-300 yards. When you can get ducks to work, someone else is skybusting and screwing you up. Manilla has hunters lined up at 3am for about a mile waiting to get in. Fights break out and gamewardens are crawling the area. There is not as much public land around there to support the numbers of shooters. Delta National and Panther Swamp are the best bet for that area. That's all I got to say 'bout that. It used to be a primo place, but I'm talking 15-20 years ago. The weather has to be right, the fields have got to have water on them, and you've got to work like hell to kill ducks. It almost is not worth it to make the trip. A little scouting of the other areas I mentioned will be more beneficial in the long run. Hell, it's been so bad the last 4-5 years, we're considering selling the camp and relocating on the Pearl river on the coast.

Vicksburg has a real nice memorial park with a lot of neat Civil War stuff in it. I always loved going thru there on the way to Grandma' (thru Yazoo City and on up to Durant) for Christmas when I was a kid. 'Just knew Johnny 'Reb' was gonna jump-up and fire one them cannons on the bluffs any minute .....what an imagination!
I also remember the night we got behind a semi and 'crawled' (1MPH max) past another semi in the other lane. Both trailers rubbed the guard-rails on each side of the bridge while scraping paint off each other as they tried to negotiate that narrow old bridge. If that wasn't scarry enough, a freight train crossed the bridge at the same time, and I remember thinkin' we were ALL gonna DIE! Then, when we got to the Mississippi side, we had to sit in line for hours, while the authorities checked each vehicle for plants and such (that's when they were tryin' to crack-down on the weavel(sp?) infestation from out-o-state sources. Man have times changed!
By the way.....Happy Veterans Day to all you veterans, out there.....my sincere gratitude for your service!
F-duster....sorry to hear 'bout your discovery.....hope you have a good season in spite of the competition.

millenium nitwit, I mean mallard. Panther swamp sux..apparently you haven't been there in a while. You can hardly get into the parking lot. If you don't get there at midnight, you're not gonna get a spot to hunt. Every time you work some ducks, the dikhead that's 100 yds down will either start calling or start shooting and scare them away..
It's obvious you hunt the Vicksburg area bc you're providing false information to keep another hunter out. Mahanna and Twin Oaks I hear are good spots..Delta National is ok too.
Last time I looked Panther wasn't in the "Vicksburg Area."
PS: I don't hunt Panther anymore.

Hey Chaser
In your post you said "I hear",lets try not to believe everything you hear!!! It sounds like MM hit the nail on the head, cause you come over here and try it out and tell me what you think!! Lets see if your spread will fit nicely between the hunters that are 50 yards on each side of you! Or heck dont even put any deeks out and just shoot the ones that are circling the guys next to ya!!! I am refering to the WMA's you mentioned!

Man from what I hear you are about ten-twenty years to late. I lived and hunted there during the late 70's - the late 80's and watched it dwindle by the year. But by no means think there is not great duck huntin'. I still have family land where we hunt every year and we swear the Ole' duck Commander himself could make a tape. Look around Holly Bluff, and Valley Park, if you need some help let me know.
