I voted before I put alot of thougt into the question Is DU good for duck hunting, I voted with the question Is DU good for ducks? in my head. Its not good for duck hunting in the south, however what they have done in the prairies for nesting is wonderful. Although if you do not have nesting ducks there would be no duck hunting. So I would still vote yes but they need to stop feeding on the refuges, start rotating & alternating allowing the refuges to be shot under control every other year so they are not habit forming to the ducks. That way we could have ducks from N.Dokota to Louisiana. Just my 2 cents!
Somebody shoot!!

Littlehitch I don't hate them its just I hate to see our state stamp money go to DU Canada. I hate to see people go to Mexico and slaughter ducks ie DU Mexico. DU supports these two and they don't abide by our laws. An organization as big as DU should have enough clout to dictate limit and season dates for these two also. I was area chairman here until 1988 and started doing research and found my money could be spent better through other organizations. If I could get around buying a state duck stamp I wouldn't because the money goes out of this country. I know habitat habitat habitat but I really feel we have more than enough now.
If you want to hunt ducks, not kill ducks, then send DU yo money. They got plenty ways to put it to good use. Just don't do any good for us. Back in the 70's before DU was ever heard of we had more ducks than we have snow geese today. They stopped em back then and its just gotten worse.
If they are helping ducks you can't tell it here.
My $.02.

du needs to change their goals, they should satisfy the hunters from the dakotas to the la coast. keep the breeding grounds intact, but rotate the protected areas from year to year and stop the feeding.
stop selling $25 prints at banquets and auction off 2 and 3 day hunts in the refuge sanctuary areas, let the officials guide, just get the ducks off of them.
my .02 worth

Um....without the breeding ground protected by DU, if you think hunting is bad NOW.......
I think DU has become something of a fiasco lately. They need a good PR firm worse than a crackhead needs a hit. They need to examine the "no trapping" nonsense they are putting out. They need to keep their hands off the lion's share of our state duck stamp money.
But there is no way that I can say DU is BAD for duck hunting in the grand scheme of things. Consider the alternative.

Although they can slip off the road once in a while, DU is still beneficial for ducks. If they weren't, why would the leaders of DW also be members of DU. Give some of the leaders of Delta a call and ask if they are members of DU.
GC made the best point so far. We need DU's political influence, land, money and some of their research to give ducks a better chance to thrive.
