I love this time of year reading the football post. I think ole miss has a lot to look forward to. At first glance I thought Snead looked very anxious and tried to do to much (which was predictable from all the hype), but he did settle down and played a fair game. I think Ole Miss is the 3rd best team in the SEC behind Florida and Alabama. That is not saying they will not beat either of them because they very well could and chances are both Ole Miss and Bama will lose to someone they should not. Ole Miss will be a dangerous football team as long as they stay healthy. I think Snead will be a good quarterback for Ole Miss not to sure about a heisman winner though. One a side not I was very please with Mcelroy for Alabama. Both quarterback started shaky and finished well. I dont take much out of the first half on most season openers. If you through out the first half of both the Bama game and Ole Miss game you see 2 different teams.

I think Ole Miss will be pretty good but there schedule will hurt them worst than anything. They won't have many chances to beat BCS teams. I hate to say it cause I absolutely hate Florida but unless they crap out completely they will win the SEC and prob the National Champ. I think Snead just needs time to get this Hiesman crap out of his head, he is good enough to win games which is most important, I don't think he is gonna be a real contender for Heisman. He just doesn't have the players surrounding him like Mccoy or Tebow. Then again they were unable to pull away from a team that is rankes 5 or 6 in C-USA a much weaker conference untill the last few minutes. I think it will be an interesting season.

Lastly WHO LET THEM DOGS OUT!!!!
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

They can focus on the rest of the season cause the heisman is out the window.

You can't count Snead out with the mad marketing skillz of the head Reb. Check out this smooth sell:

I'm sorry, but I must have missed the Snead for Heisman campaign ---been out of town the last week. What campaign are you guys talking about? Something organized by the Ole Miss sports marketing dept.? Or just some sports gurus discussing potential candidates? I suspect it is just the latter. And there have been well over a dozen or two or three players all over the country mentioned as a least a potential candidate. It will all depend upon their play and the success of their respective teams.

Like most Ole Miss fans that I know, we are just interested in wins --- any way we can get them. And I would bet the house that Snead is too. I am not going to analyze each game Ole Miss plays in terms of Heisman type performances. Who focking cares this early in the season? IF we have a great season and Snead gets some mention in this regard --- then great. But, it will not be a focus of mine, and I don't see Snead worried about it either ---nor anyone else in the sports media world for that matter.

The elementary school logic of these discussions seems to go something like this ---since some sports commentator mentioned Snead as a dark horse candidate for the Heisman (along with at least a couple of dozen other players), then if Snead does not deliver a "heisman-like" performance, he is chopped liver. This is absurd.

So, enough already with the Heisman bullschit ---and the rest of these nonsensical posts. The threads on this site after this first weekend of college football are the worst I have ever seen since I started participating on this site ---- mostly devoid of any real analysis or intelligence. IF this is what is going to pass for football discussion here for the rest of this season, then count me out.

Overall you have to be pleased, the game is 4 quarters, and you would rather finish strong and have some momentum to build on. I think it also gives Nutt a great chance to work on the flaws. Should only reinforce that if you don't make the plays, anyone can beat you on any given day. #8 dont mean jack chit!

Memphis appears to be a solid team this year, with the exception of their O-line. Up against CUSA opponents I think they will win 7-8 games this year. This was a big game, and it always seems to get downplayed with the lopsided series record in ole miss favor. Supposedly our team was bothered with the flu in that game...hopefully that is all gone by SC game.

This post shows how much alot of you know about football.

Alot of people are knocking the Rebels about the way they played the first three quarters. Well there is a reason you play 4 quarters in football. Ask some of the Bama fans if they want to go back and stop their game after three quarters.

Ligthen up Francis...it's one game. Memphis sucked on Saturday and will continue to suck. The Rebs started slow and ended on a good note. Alabama did the "smash mouth" thing again and it worked (again).

On to week two...

Had a few more Rebs had this attitude back in 2000 maybe the "Snead for Heisman" stuff wouldn't strike such a nerve. Duece's name was on more cars back then than it is now even with him owning the dealerships  ....and he came out in a class with guys like Michael Vick, Drew Brees, Eric Crouch and LaDainian Tomlinson. None of which were even in the top two after the votes were tallied.

UM did finish up strong and the score shows it. Sneads stats and composure were no where near what people thought they would be but thats why you play...at least he improved and played smarter as the game went on. Who does UM have to replace McCluster next year/this year if he gets hurt? He seemed to be the biggest spark on the offense.

All I know is, we didn't play our best and still beat a good memphis team by 31 points at their place. If you would have told me before the game that the score would end up being 45 - 14, I would have said that we played a good game. The fact that we didn't play well and still managed to put up 45 points just shows how much potential this team has. We will get there but we have a lot of work to do!!!
