There is a thread a few pages back about using your blackberry as your modem for your laptops and home computers. If you have a blackberry I would highly recommend this. I no longer have internet at my house. Its fairly quick. I live in an area that's 3G so I don't know the speed of other places. Hope this helps.

speeds will be a little slower than cable or dsl, reliability will obviously be lower because it depends on your cell coverage, i have one of the new htc touch pro phones and the internet on it is pretty fast, can watch youtube videos without much of a wait, maybe 10-15 seconds

I have a card from Cellular South. To be honest, I have been impressed. Of course it is not as ast as high speed but plenty fast enough. The best part is it has worked almost everywhere. I used it all the way to NO one day and it only quit in one spot aorund the state line. Have used it all over the delta and point in between.

CellSouth does not offer BlackBerry tethering as mentioned above. Other carriers do though.

Incorrect. I am replying to this via laptop in my truck on i55 as my blackberry as my modem. This is possible.

Yes you can use your blackberry as a modem. Go back 4 pages or so and read the subject titles blackberry modem or something similar. It has step by step instructions.

W Vaughan wrote:I figured this out. These steps are for windows XP but vista should be similar. Make sure your BB software is installed on your pc. It will need to be open while using your BB to tether.
1. Dial ##000000 and hit call. Scroll down till you see SIP user ID # write it down you will need it in a minute. End the call.
2. On your phone go to options/status scroll down to ESN hex #. Write it down you will need it in a minute.
3. Plug your phone into the pc using the cable that came with it. On your pc go to start/control panel/phone &Modem. Select standard modem. Go to properties/diagnostics/ click on query modem you should see some text in the box. Exit this now.
4. Now go to control panel/network connections/new conection/next/next/select set up connection manually/next/next/enter the name you want to use for connection then next/ for the number to dial enter #777 then click next/finish.
5. Now a new box should pop up where you enter user name and password. Enter the SIP ID # you wrote down earlier as the user name. Enter the ESN hex # in all caps as your password.
6. Save user ID and password and then click dial. It should be connected now. Open your internet browser and you should be online.
7. Be sure to go to connections and disconnect when you are done on the internet and to reconect go to start\ connect to and you should see the name you entered for service provider just click on it and it should pop up the box for you to dial.

Holy crap, sorry guys, I had no idea you could do this. I was simply going by my conversation with CellularSouth.

That is cool, need to try it.

i am curious on this also... i sell a planter monitor that is capable of connecting to the web and allowing remote viewing of the monitor and what is going on with the planter.. it can be used to monitor and check in on operators from your desktop or be used for remote diagnostics.. it uses a USB port... just curious as to how well coverage is and price of the cell modems...
