swag, I agree. That's why at my camp, the buck rule is, if you will put him on the wall, shoot him. that let's everyone make their own decision as to what is a trophy.

if you want meat, kill a doe.

Guys we are all on the same zone with the exception of one.

1. A trophy is in the eye of the beholder, I stated we need to stay with the new state buck regulations, which are not a trophy for me but allow for hunters to not be restricted to the inth degree on a buck harvest.

2. the key point I was making is that 10% of hunters give the 100% a bad name by over harvesting and abusing our limits.

My question is that if you don't have a hunting lease and don't own land, where would you hunt? Answer: On public land which usually has more strict rules than the state as a whole enforces. So regardless of income all people of MS have a place to hunt.

If we have wildlife biologists where do they get to make a decision? On public hunting land which again is getting better harvests of trophy animals than most private clubs in MS.

Here is the root of all EVIL: I don't want to be told what I cannot do. And for the thugs of MS(10%), we need to use law and or wildlife biologist to instruct land owners and leasees on how to increase and protect a herd throught similar practices of public hunting areas. This will require tags.

NO TAG, NO BAG.

Your license is a "Sportsman" license and hunting is a sport, with each sport there are rules, quit trying to act like a thug and enjoy the SPORT.

If they are going to start regulating what antler size we can take by zone, they need to start deciding how many does can be taken per person by zone. I fully understand that there are areas of MS that do need some major doe harvesting. I've seen it with my own two eyes. However, the delta areas are hurting right now deer # wise. "Brown it's down" has become the fad these days. They're ground checking anything and everything. When they went to 5 does a year, it got way out of hand. I used to see 10-15 deer a day. Now, I'm lucky to see 1-3. Last year our population made a strong comeback, but late in the season the does started getting busted around us.

The most important thing that needs to happen is a tagging system. PERIOD. Without is , there is no system of checks and balances. The MDWFP can say 1 deer a year and people can still kill 20.
I kill a lot of deer and no one has ever surveyed me about anything I have ever shot. How the heck do they decide what the rules should be. They have no clue!!!

I think that the new AR's are great and will show an improvement 5 year's down the road, some people just need to have patience. It will not affect us at all as we try to only shoot 5 1/2 year old bucks and older regardless of the size of there horns. If you have ever hunted a place with a 1 to 1 buck to doe ratio you know it's a lot of fun, but first you need to figure out if you want quality or quantity because it's extremely hard to have both.

Our quality place with the 1 to 1 ratio can be a lot of fun to hunt but don't expect to see a deer everytime you go, but from November 1st to Christmas you can rattle or grunt a deer up almost everytime you go because of the lack of doe's. We set our goal of how many doe's we want to kill and we try and kill them all by Dec 1, we don't like to shoot our doe's after the rut has started.

Our quantity place can be fun to hunt as well but I have been hunting it for 7 years and never killed a buck of it because I have never seen one that I wanted to shoot. On a good day at this place you will see any where from 50 to 100 deer and on a bad day you see 20 doe's. The owner of this place is strictly a number's man and he likes looking at deer which there is nothing wrong with that and we will still kill 1 or 2 140" deer a year off of this place.

You take it how you want to but I think that the state is doing it's best to try and better our deer herd and I am glad that they got rid of the 4 point rule. I do not think that a tagging system is needed nor do I want to see one enforced but if it happens then so be it. Let's all just hunt and have fun and enjoy the great outdoors, after all it's not about the kill but the hunt anyway's and the memories made!

Without a tagging system there is no way to tell if what they are doing works. thats a fact!!
I have places like you are talking about, quality and quantity. Actually thats not exactly right, I hunt 3 different tracts of land . One we quality manage but not to the point we cant have fun. The other places we do what makes us happy.
You did hit the nail on the head, its about the Hunt and the memories with friends and family. But if I go and dont kile some deer my wife would wonder where the hell I been. i am not a trophy hunter. I mostly bow hunt , Its dang hard to kill a trophy class deer with a bow. We eat a lot of deer, I follow what rules are placed in front of me whereever I hunt. If I cant do that I shouldnt hunt that place. But I think it is absolutely ridiculous that the game and fish is going to try and guide what they have no Idea about. I DONT KNOW IF I SAID IT BUT WE NEED A D@MN TAGGING SYSTEM.

I have seen what AR's can do and they work and we do not have a tagging system. The hunter's that hunt public places religously year in and year will be able to tell you a difference in just a few year's. It's for the health of the herd IMO, there are place all over this state that have a 10 to 1 doe to buck ratio and that's not normal nor healthy. I don't think a tagging system will help control or count the number of deer any more accurately than the way they do it now. You will alway's have people that are not going to tell the truth on how many they killed and even with a tagging system it will be a pile of untagged der.

There is a lot of truth in what you say. Public land is not part of my debate. Public land deer are managed and tracked, that is the reason for success and being able to tell adifference. My gripe about tagging is not really even about tagging. Its about the mythical numbers that MDWFP comes up with to bas rules. On private land they havent got a clue in any way form or fashion. I wish they would just say we got no clue. I dont give a rats butt if someone kills 1 or 51. My crew is going to do our thing. Private lands should be managed by the hunters hunting them is my biggest point. If what I do turns out not to be right well it just sucks for me. anyway..........
