Bass Mounts
My 3 year old caught his first fish not long ago, by himself. It's a 1/2 lb. bass, and I want to get it mounted for him for his room. Really don't want to spend alot of $, but hell..not sure you CAN spend alot of money on a 1/2 lb. bass...anyway, want someone local to Jax or Madison to do it. Any ideas?

jxn/madison area. I'd burn more gas getting down there then paying for the mount!
2nd an 8 lb'er? It get's mounted too!

Wouldn't doubt it if the cost is the same for 1/2 lb or an 8 lb'er. Kind of like a size 8 leather boot costing the same as a 14.
Son, be sure to check the oil. The gas will take care of itself. George Carter - Circa 1965

That's really not the issue. Waiting 6-8-12 months to get the kid's fish back is my concern.

Taxidermists you end up waiting for are the good ones that are busy. I'm very picky when it comes to fish as fish must be painted. It all takes time on top of how busy that person actually is. If you find a person that will get you a mount back in a couple weeks, I would certainly think twice about the quality and certainly ask for pictures of past work.

Re: Bass Mounts
+1 on bobby brown. he has mounted all of mine.
Re: Bass Mounts
I would go with a reproduction. I know its not the real fish but by the time you get it back from a taxidermist it will have lost its luster. You can take it and put it on a piece of drift wood and make it look real good.

He's 4 years old. Could care less about if it's top quality, real or a repo. He's wants his 1 and 1/2 pound fish on the wall..

Re: Bass Mounts
My dad mounted my first bass that was about that size, if not smaller. Said it took twice as long to get it back, and cost twice as much a larger fish. Apparently fish that small are extremely hard to work with. I've still got it though (and the Baby Bomber I caught it on), and we both agree it was worth every dime.
