Oh hell Jim. I agreed with you about the water, then you had to go and say something like that. Cmon man, do you really think that in 5 or 6 years the whole duck population is going to change something they have been doing for millions of years. Now that excuse has been about worn out.
Yea sure land has gone up in Oklahoma, its gone up everywhere. If Im not mistaken, I think that Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri in the past couple of years have had the best seasons in their history. Now I dont think that the ducks are shifting their flyway, they just hanging out up north because there isnt anything to push em down.
The flyway shifting is a good excuse but I dont think its reality. My grandpa told me this year in the blind that this season is pretty bad and I asked him what he thought about the flyway shifting and he said after he laughed at me " Where the hell did you here that. That thing aint moving nowhere".
He's been chasing these ducks for over 50 yrs. now and knows a thing or two. So give the flyway argument some rest and pray for the weather to cooperate next year so we wont have this argument.

When there are no resources to use, they will change the way the move around. They are after all on the wing. They change when the water conditions for nesting are not good in places, and they change when they arent good down here in places.
They cant use what isnt here to use.
They have to change or perish, I say they change, and so does every hunter in OKlahoma at the moment.
What happens is you must have a multiple year event such as our drought.
Successive generations build usage moving to the west, and each new generation follows. After 5 generations you have more ducks moving that way than this way. It's not some consciouse decision, it's a cumulative effect and after 5 years it is strong enough to deliver the results we have today.
Now you can blame it on no cold and all the other usual excuses all you wish, I just want somebody to be wrong and the ducks to show back up.

Season Change
What we need is Jan15-Feb28 4 Duck Limit....What do you think?
I think we should leave things the way they are. The limit #'s are fine as well. I have had three hunts this year where I have not fired a shot. If I take one bird home I consider this to be a good hunt. I started duck hunting 4 years ago. I hear people talk about the way it used to be in the early 90's and how good it was. For me the hunting has been just fine. I have shot a few ducks this season, and try to learn from my mistakes.

you are absolutely crazy. One Duck does not constitute a good hunt in any body's book. I enjoy the outdoors and the thrill of the chase and the time with friends and family in the blind. And I will continue to hunt regardless because i love to hunt Ducks....But something needs to change....

I just wondered. I was not meaning anything bad by the Question. STR8Meat has only been hunting since things have turned bad and i know he has never experianced a truly great Duck Hunt....Hopefully thing will get better in the years to come...
