Does anyone out there have any good refferals or names of companies or an individual that could sit at home with my ailing mom during the week.
I really appreciate any information.

Where is she located, and does she have any special needs ?
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Since she's a senior citizen, she may qualify for home health care....it all depends on her situation, i.e., finances, age, physical condition, etc....just call one of the local home health centers near you....they'll be listed in the yellow pages, or get her doctor to refer you to one of them....been there, done that!!!

Hospice is great if she could qualify....hopefully she wouldn't since you have to be diagnosed as having 6 months or less to live, but it is a great service.wing shot wrote:Does anyone out there have any good refferals or names of companies or an individual that could sit at home with my ailing mom during the week.

before she goes in a home she needs to disperse her assets, because when the money runs out, they take it all, and you have to do it 6 months before she goes in, but Fairfield in Batesville is nice, and i know the guy thats part owner he's all business, but he takes care of it very well

Re: I need help...senior home care for my mother
she is in madison, very weak from radiation treatments- needs bathing, cooking (eats very little)help dressing, going to the bathroom..the basics.
She refuses to go to a nursing home and we are not ready for hospice, but I may have to do rehab stay (3 weeks or so)at a nursing home if she gets worse.
If you know of a good sitter for 6 to 8 hours a day, that what I am looking for now
Thanks for the replies

Correction....assets have to be liquidated 5 years before application date....it used to be 3 years, but has changed to 5 years, now....you may, however, keep approx. $18,000 for miscellaneous expenses, but everything else, i.e., house, land, stocks, bonds, etc. must be liquidated.....or, gifted/transferred into someonelse's name....that part can be tricky, so consult a tax attorney.

Didn't know it was that much too it. I have not actually put anyone in there, but my girlfriends mom is the administrator there and she runs a tight ship. I believe that they changed ownership here recently, but she is still the administrator.

Sounds like you need to find one of the smaller hospitals in your area that has a swing bed program. If she's old enough to be on medicare they will pay for it 100% for the first 20 days. After that the co-pay starts kicking in. We just put my mother-n-law in one Sat week ago and it's working out great! She goes to rehab every morning, has both PT and OT get's visits from the Psyc Dr on a daily basis while all her vitals are being monitored. It's way cheaper than a regular hospital stay and it's primarily for people that need some form of rehab but not in need of a L.T.A.C. Not sure of one in the Madison area but check with your local hospital they should be able to tell you if there is one in the area.
