small boats??

Postby Deltaduk » Fri Jan 02, 2004 5:59 pm

I am in the market for a small boat ,Been looking at the otter boats, but was wondering if there are other brands out there.does anyone use the "Ghenooe" boats {think I spelled it right}.some thing that I could use a trolling motor or small boat motor ,that will go thru really shallow water ,without sacrificing to much room.any info would help.thanks

Hey Deltaduk,

I have a boat called a PLUS Boat. It is made in Red Banks, Ms. Great little boat. Use it fishing and hunting. I got the two man about 11 ft. it is kinda like a Peroe (not spelled right). It is extremely stable. As the Beastmaster he has been in it and often wants to use it.

Here is the number. 662-851-7002

Check out Momarsh boats. I think there web address is momarsh.com

If not, just do a google search on MoMarsh. They are based out of MO and have two styles. One is a marsh layout they call the Fatboy. The other is a layout boat for marsh or big water call the FatboyDP. The reason I like their boats is mainly because you can put a small outboard or electric motor on one. I recently ordered one after researching the hell out of small boats. I could not find one negative word on ANY duck hunting forum about their boats. Definately worth checking out.

I have a small Riverhawk and love it. It weighs 100lbs., will take up to 5hp motor, it is very stable and will float in snot. It is the same design as the Gheenoe. From what I understand, Gheenoe was owned by two partners that split. One still owns Gheenoe and the other owns Riverhawk.

Small Boat

Got a Chapman Pirogue that I have had for better part of ten years. I just sold it to a friend of mine and bought a brand new one. I cannot imagine a boat that needs less water to move. It does come in a flatback model, but I just paddle mine. And you are right flatlakewoody, that was not the right spelling. Good try though for someone not from south Louisiana! http://www.pirogue.com/

Deltaduk, if you are interested let me know. I am headed back to New Orleans in a week or so and could give one a free ride. I hunt up your way a good bit.

I had a gheenoe. It is an awesome little boat. You have to be somewhat careful with it because it's fiberglass, (dropping batteries in it, dragging it on the ground) and so forth, but it is a very stable little boat, and isnt very heavy so it's easy to pull if you need to.

I've got the 4 Rivers 2-man layout. It doesn't weigh but about 100 lbs, has a dog deck on the back, can handle up to 5 HP. It's really only a 1&1/2 man though. 2 people is really tight in it, but it is doable. I prefer to hunt from it by myself.
