Seems like I may have heard some talk about pool on here before so I thought I'd tell y'all about my weekend. As some of you may know I play a little pool, this weekend was the Memphis APA league city championships...starting friday night. Friday night was graduation for the Senior class at the Radiology school I'm in so I was unable to make the match friday night. So, I get to the Casino's for the first match Saturday morning at 9:15. They hold the tournament at the casinos because they have a ballroom big enough to hold 24 pool tables, all the players, players equipment, food/drink etc on-site. Anyway, we played 3 matches Saturday beginning at 9:15 a.m. as mentioned earlier and the last 8-ball was dropped at 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning (17 1/2 hours of pool is a LONG DAY). We had fought and scratched our way to the championship match scheduled for 10 am Sunday morning. At roughly 2:00 Sunday afternoon, the last 8-ball was dropped sending our team to Las Vegas (all expenses paid plus spending money) to compete for the National Championships in August. I must also say that we did this with only 6 players where most, if not all, other teams had 8 players from which to choose to play each match. One of the players on the team is a photographer and took some good pics this weekend and I'll try to get some pics posted on here eventually.

It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Dutch you must be prety good because I have seen some of these guys that play in this tourney play before and they can outright play some pool. I don't play much eight ball or nine, but I have gotten addicted to a game called rosie(or however you spell it).
Re: APA (American Poolplayers Association) now with pics
Not sure I have ever heard of "rosie"...pretty much a bar-box 8-ball player, but recently I have been playing quite a bit of 9-ball on the "pro" table (4 1/2 x 9)
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Congrats and be ready for a fun time. My mom and dad have been shooting 8-ball for close to 18 years now and 9 ball for close to 6 years. They have never made Vegas for 8-ball and made 9-ball the first year they shot 9-ball for league. I've been shooting with them for 4 years and this year was the closest to coming to Vegas for 8-ball. We got to Tri-Cup and then qualified for June Distributor, but lost out toward the end in June Distributor.
Yall will meet some awesome players in Vegas and don't get bummed if yall lose out quick. Yall still get to stay the whole time and there's tons of small tournaments going on that yall can shot in. Guy I work with went last year for 9-ball and they lost out early. He won 6 or 7 tournaments that he shot in while he was there and said he had more fun shooting the tournaments.

Yeah, a 4 1/2 x 9 is where it's at. If you can play on that size table, you'll do just fine on a bar-table. Kids do catch on quick...go watch this video.

I wish I still had the video of a 10 or 12 year old boy that was shooting like he was a 10. I think he could give Chris Miller a run for his money, Chris Miller won the 8 or 9 ball national single championship a year or two ago. I'll have to look for the video.
