Hatchie River between Corinth and Ripley. Need input.

I'm considering some land in the Hatchie River bottoms between Corinth and Mississippi. I know it's not the Delta but it looks real "ducky". I've seen several pics of the property and I'm going to look at it in person. I was wandering if any of you guys could give me a little history on that area in relation to birds. I'm not looking for your honey hole or an area in general, I've already found it so I'm not just coming over that way to just scout around. never hunted this area but would venture to guess you would regret long term. Suggest you try to find delta real estate. If in ag production, will pay for itself over a 15 to 20 year period and continue to provide income. some write off potential on taxes. problem is finding small parcels. you might have an interest in an undivided interest in a club. I know of a few. good luck. I recently looked at a piece of property in the hills, all in pasture, and was shocked to see the price tag on a none income producing piece of hill real estate.

It's probably hit or miss depending on the weather. I can say the best duck hunt I have ever been on in my life was in that area about 10 years ago. It was an afternoon hunt with a friend after church on a Sunday. A big cold front was coming and the temperature dropped 30-40 degrees by dark. I have never seen that many birds in my life, even hunting in the Delta. We still talk about that hunt.

If your considering buying property for duck hunting I wouldn't spend the money in northeast Mississippi. Ducks on the Hatchie in that area are few and far between. Saw a few more ducks last year than in any year past, but in years past I've seen close to no ducks on Hatchie. (Except for woodies as previously mentioned) If I wanted to have a major ferrel hog problem on my land, though, that is exactly where I would buy. If hunting isn't your primary reason for buying the land, though, I say go for it.

I was in on a once in a lifetime hunt in the Jumpertown area about that same time. I don't remember that we killed more than 8 or 10 birds but we had about 3000 ducks come into flooded corn at day light and then leave about as fast as they came. Neat hunt.

I know some guys that hunt the Hatchie- can be good when it gets out of its banks, but alot of hit and miss.

I live about 5 miles from the area your talking about. And as for the duck hunting its from year to year ive seen it to where you could not get another duck in a hole and ive seen it were woodies is all you can find. Not to be to nosie but what is the location of the area?

Pretty much what everyone else says. Hit and miss. You can have some great roost shoots on full moon nights....at least thats what I hear!!

when river floods you can kill some greenheads. the wma on 72 killed quite a few birds last year. always woodies to kill. not the best but better than nothing

not sure if your property is in alcorn or tishimingo county? alcorn rates pretty high...
