single vs. double

Which do you prefer and why? I have always blown a double but have recently started using singles and really like the amount of ducks in it. Doubles have only one duck in them.

Singles are far more versatile. You can do many more variations on a single. However, I do feel my transitions are much smoother through a double. Most people sound like just one duck on a double reed, but if you know what you are doing, you can get a bunch of hens out of that call. Kent got about 15 different hens out of his in a 60 sec routine in the world live duck in Maryland two years ago.

I was up in Maryland with Kent two years ago when he won and the amazing thing is that he did it with an off the shelf Echo Poly call. That's what his Meat Hanger call is based on. "59 and three quarter seconds of pure duck", according to Kent.

i would definately say a single. ive got a RNT daisy cutter and it is one of the best single reed calls ive ever owned. so i would suggest getting a single reed because you can do a lot more on a single reed than you can on a double reed.

I may get some disagreement here, but if you are just starting out, start with a double reed and then work your way up to a single. As for me, now, I prefer a single reed.

Double reed habits are hard to get out of if wanting to move to single reed later. If I had a kid he would NEVER get to blow a double reed.

they are both great. if you are good enough you can get a couple of different ducks out of a double, but you can get alot of ducks out of a single
