Best place to watch Baseball in the South?

Bianco has shown success, though hasn't made it to the pinnacle of college baseball. Bianco is a player's coach, maybe too much at times. He has proven that he recruits well, but just seems to lack some gameday experience as a head coach. A good assistant to come in would help tremendously. I don't believe he is the bonehead that some make him out to be, as I do still believe he is one of the top coaches in the country, as well as in the SEC. He keeps reloading talent and 4 Super Regionals in the past 5 years is impressive to everyone else, except State fans.



So, with the present situation, Ole Miss should get there before State does.

I don't think he's a bonehead. What he has done at Mississippi is amazing, given what that program used to be. I think it's a matter of time before Mississippi gets there. However, what I find to be equally amazing is the amount of opportunities Mississippi has squandered over the years.......simply astounding.

What is a player's Coach? What is the basis of your statement "Bianco is a player's coach"? From talking to former Ole Miss players, several of them told me that McDonnell (now at Louisville) was the guy that held the team together and that most players were NOT very fond of Bianco. This gets back to my statement (last year) that it will be interesting to watch what happens to the Ole Miss program long term, now that McDonnell is no longer around.

I may stand corrected, but I have NEVER heard a single player publicly make a positive statement about Bianco the way that Corky Palmer's and Coach Polk's players talk about them. Again, I'm sure someone will prove me wrong (I have not seen every interview), but when the information about Bianco was shared with me I started "listening" and I haven't heard a single player attribute success to Bianco in any fashion.

When a person brings up the past it means he has nothing good going on in the present. As long as Ms. State is at the bottom of the SEC and Ole Miss is SEC co-champs Ill be happy. Has Ms. States baseball program in the past been better than Ole Miss - HE** YES Is Ms. States baseball program better than Ole Miss in the present HE** NO.

Truth of the whole thing is I'll always be happy to listen to States fans talk about how good THEY USE TO BE because that means they arent worth a SH** now. And as far as OMAHA goes I am as disappointed at any Rebel fan and it was a miserable Sunday afternoon. But I thought after Saturdays game - Does one game Sunday determine how good a coach Bianco is? and the answer is no it doesnt, I didnt agree with every decision he made this weekend but as I have said before at least we are going to super regionals and our program is not in the shape it was 10 years ago. And if you cant remember the shape the program was in 10 years ago just look at Ms. State the past two years and thats where we where.

2 years removed from Omaha is not what I would consider "the past". I would think the modern era would be 5 or 6 years in sports, maybe longer. "Past" in my opinion is 10 years or longer. 24 months ago we had 13,000+ ranting and raving MSU fans watching some MS boys laying it all out on the field. They got behind, gave up some HRs, but on the mound and at the plate they battled it out and kept coming back on top. Watching Morgan for UM Friday gave me the impression that UM was ready to do it. It was akin to Moreland coming in and getting those last two outs against Clemson. Did not see the same stuff the next two days. No comparison in the "modern era"....MSU still on top. Just two down years as any program will find themselves in at some point.

I will agree with you about Bianco, he is a good coach and probably should not get the negative stuff that he does, but he also needs to change..."ie" get an old school guy to help him out in those tough decision scenarios. He desrves alot of credit for taking UM from where they were to where they are.

MSUdawg - You cant look to next year as it is in the future. You can look at the 2008 season as it was in the past. You can only look at the 2009 season as it is in the present. And where were the dawgs in 2009?

And two yrs ago State was in Omaha and had they been to regionals the last two years the program would look to be okay but in the last two years State has had losing records. If I was a State fan I would be concerned about my program and not bashing a program that currently is in better shape. Its kinda of like Ole Miss winning the Cotton bowl in 2004 and then after the 2007 season saying well we are only two years from the Cotton Bowl. That would have been a true statement but we sucked in 2007 the same as State baseball sucks in the present.

2008 - polk gone and from talking to the players up there didn't care about anything but fighting with the NCAA
2009 - new coach rebuilding year
2010 - Kickin ass and takin names.... and you can put that in writing

I won't argue with you cause I don't wanna make it seem like I am challenging what your saying cause I am sure your being honest, but I will tell you I personally know 3 guys that played for Bianco (one of which told me about the whole 2003 team and they all supposedly loved Bianco and McDonnell) and 2 that played for Palmer, along with numerous recruited by Palmer. Ole Miss players liked Bianco and still hold him in high regard and stay in touch. I have never heard anyone say good things about Palmer, players or recruits. Whatever that is worth...

Basically, you can find negative and positive opinions about any subject when you talk with different people, so this is really a pointless topic of conversation...

I'm not trying to say anything bad about him, I never spoke to or been around the man...I'm also not saying that I've heard nothing but bad things about him if that's the way it came across, just saying that I've never heard, from the people that I've talked to about him, any good reviews of the man in terms of being a players coach. That ranges from average to bad, I've heard both, and I'm not trying to vouche for the validity of anything somebody else said (notice I added "whatever that is worth" after I brought up Coach Palmer), so don't get in a tissy. I'm sure there are plenty guys, like yourself obviously, that think he is a great guy and have lots of good to say about him. As I said in my post, you bring up any conversation on the website and you can get both sides of the story when drawing out personal opinions and experiences.

To answer your question verbatim, I don't care to hear one way or the other. If you got to play under a coach you have respect for and was good to you, then I think that's great and I glad you got that experience to take with you. We should all be as lucky, please don't get offended cause you think I am bashing your coach, I know well how that sort of thing goes and that isn't/wasn't my intention.

no offense taken nor intended. just offering some differing examples than the one presented concerning what seemed to be an open ended statement that could be taken any number of ways.

coach palmer has 3 characteristics that i think all successful leaders have: honesty, trustworthy, and he leads by example. wins are wins, losses are losses, but at the end of the day, i want my kid playing for someone just like him.
