Re: GLOBAL WARMING CORRAL
Those of you 40 years old and over, like me, probably recall the big global cooling scare during the 70s. But what you probably did not know (I didn't) was that there were alarmists re global warming that predated the 70s global cooling ---- this occurred in the late 50s. And even before that global warming alarm of the 50s, was ....yes....you guessed it.... a global cooling scare. The "scientists" have gone back and forth on these alarms throughout the last century.
Here is an interesting article about this, as well as a clip from a 1958 documentary that looks a lot like that Al Gore movie, "An Inconvenient Truth": http://hotair.com/greenroom/archives/2009/06/09/quietly-cleaning-up-the-global-warming-scam/
Check it out, it is pretty funny stuff.

Future energy supply being the question mark that it is, global cooling would be much worse than warming.
Re: GLOBAL WARMING CORRAL
Hammer, please provide us with your opinion of the latest GW legislation, "cap and trade."
I would think right-winged conservative GW-believers like yourself would prefer DC leave well enough alone if this is the best they can do. Comments?

Re: GLOBAL WARMING CORRAL
Cap and trade- NO. Carbon tax- YES.
I am sticking with my long held view that carbon is a pollutant not because of a link to climate change/global warming but because of changes in air chemistry from 300 PPM to 700 PPM. As such, we need to create market signals that incent less carbon emissions. That is exacty what a carbon tax does and it does it efficiently and at a a very low cost. Cap and trade is very inefficient in this regard and very subject to the same insider dealing that wrecked Wall Street and threw our economy into a tailspin. I believe that cap and trade is political shenanigans intended to benefit the rich and connected at the expense of the masses.
Beyond a carbon tax, if we are serious about reducing carbon pollution, we get serious about nuclear energy, nat gas power plants and nat gas vehicles. Coal fired power plants account for 10% of all carbon emissions in the US. If not for enviro hysteria after 3 Mile Island, we would have nuke plants all over the place and a whole lot less carbon in the air. The coal companies took advantage of this situatin and lobbied Congress for tax breaks that have resulted in the mothballing of 5Mw of nat gas merchant power plants in MS alone.
That's all I have time for at present. Take your shots- I'll get back to you when I can.
PS I went to the Rose Bowl in August, 1984 for the bronze medal soccer match of the Summer Olympics. I plan to be there in January, 2010 watching Ole Miss play in the BCS Championship game. There you have it- I am calling my shot.

No Cap and Trade is the political wish list of a President that has no common sense or forsight. If Cap and Trade passes, it will become too expensive for industry to produce goods here in the US.. So they will move thier production overseeas where there is less regulation and where they are allow to pollute more (because the other nations don't have Cap and Trade). This will cost Americans to lose more jobs and result in higher GHG Polutants.
