leases for ducks wanted from the frustrated

Postby timbertalker » Tue Jan 06, 2004 2:31 pm

seeing how everyone is getting real frustrated with never seeing any ducks i guess now would be the best time to ask about some leases for next year. Everyone has to understand something about hunting, hunting isnt just about killing something everytime you go, it's also about just getting away from everything and kicking back and relaxing. whether you kill something or not . Tell me if it wasn't for hunting and just being in the outdoors what else would there be too do :?:

The answer to your frustration is not just going out and getting in a lease. Now if you are sick of the "public hunters", thats another story. Just be careful about what you are getting into. There are quite a number of dry blinds on leased land right now. A guy wanted to lease me 580 acres last year, but couldn't guarantee the water. He said that water has never been a problem in the past. Guess what...the entire place is dry. Remember, if it don't smell right, something is rotten.

If everyone doesn't go crazy right after the season trying to lease up for next year, these prices might go down a little.

im not trying to get a lease i was more just wandering how many people go hunting just to enjoy the outdoors rather than get upset and frustrated at the hunting trips they go on. Sorry if i worded it wrong

Well, I'll be looking for a lease after the season too most likely, just need to get a setup of my own so I don't have to depend on the kindness of my father-in-law. If any of ya'll wanna give up early and let me hunt the rest of the year from your blind, I'll let you know if I wanna lease it from you next fall

C'mon now landowners dropping the prices, don't I wish, it'll never happen in a million years, they think if they get $7000 per year one time for a field they can get that no matter what, 30 day or 60 day season. Oh, well I may just have to buy me some property one day so I can be the jerk  that wants too much for it!

Lease prices goin' down? Look, if you thought the price was reasonable enough to get-in, there's 10 other folks out there, willing to pay more........just to keep someone else from gettin'-it.

'T-talker'.......your quest is noble, but I wonder if you'd have the same view if you'd paid a lease fee, made 4 trips at 2-1/2 hours (one-way) per trip, hunted 7 times and never pulled the trigger. (WHAT??)

It's gotta get better, 'cause it can't get much worse (unless I go over there 4 more times with the same results). Sure, I'm able to enjoy the sunrise and being in the outdoors with friends, but frankly, I don't know too many folks that'll go through all that trouble to watch the sun come-up.

The thing I miss most when the ducks aren't here is..........uh....well.... the DUCKS! Oh, I know where I can go and watch ducks all day, but that isn't quite what it's all about, either. :?

I like to work mallards into the decoy spread, watch their feet drop and hover over the decoys at 20 yds, admire them a little, then watch'em come-apart and hit the deck. Then I like to watch the dog do her thing. Then I like eatin'em.......and puttin' enough in the freezer to have enough to last the year. I like anticipating opening day, the next day.....and any day I can go duck hunting.

If folks don't really like killin' ducks, why don't I see more of'em totin' video cameras and goin' after'em any other time than 'the season'? Again, I know what you're saying, but everyone reaches a point where enough is enough.......I'm not in this just for the romance, any more than I am for 'the kill'. But I'm not gonna mince words, here.......'ain't a damn thing wrong with killin'em, and I'm not one-bit ashamed of it, when I DO.

I've hunted with some folks on here, this year.....and I think all of'em will attest to the fact that I'm real picky 'bout what kinda shots I take.......and how few times I actually take the safety off. Hell, 'Timberjack will tell you about the pair of mallards that I worked into the hole one morning, while my gun was hanging from a limb.....and it wasn't 'til they dropped their feet that I reached for the gun. 'RL James' will tell you I 'bout won't shoot at a wood duck, period! He'll also tell you I can't hit'em, anyway.  But the point is, I'm not out there to kill everything that flies over.

I'm going in the morning again......and am just as excited about the prospects as I was prior to opening day. And if I get some mallards hovering over the decoys at 20 yds.......you can bet your booty I'll be trying my best to kill 3 of'em, STONE DEAD!

Frustrated?.......naw, I'm like this all the time.

Well, Randy at least your aren't paying out of state license fee's too (at least I don't think!). Man I agree I love to look at fowl as much as the next guy, but I'm gonna hunt, I'm just hard wired that way! Now when the season's out I'll break out the camera, but it's 12ga time till then! One thing I can't believe though is you "'bout won't shoot a wood duck" man you won't do! I like to pull the trigger to much for that! We've had quite a few good hunts this year 'cause the practice ducks decided they wanted in our hole...so I guess I'm guilty of bein' a bit of a "if it flies it dies" redneck, but I'm gonna eat what I shoot, even spoonies are o.k. in gumbo! Shoot I was gonna show you some pictures from some pretty good hunts, but now that I realize you're a greenheads only kinda guy I'll keep "em to myself

Oh, I'll shoot other ducks.

Back in '99, we'd killed 100 ducks by Christmas.......85 of'em were gadwalls. We got sick of'em........wanted mallards. So, we scouted until we found mallards.

Everybody's different........I'm not a purist, but what I miss MOST right now, is working mallards. Nothing else gets my blood pumping , 'cept honkers and specks.

I look forward to seeing your pictures.

LOL!

Randy is frustrated...la la lala la.

Me too, buddy. Saw lots of new birds yesterday but all we did this morning was look at ice.

The highlight of the day was while scouting for cans, I came upon 2 ruddies in a hole in the ice about the size of a paper plate. One would dive, and you could see it swimming around under the ice like a lil' penguin. Then he'd find the hole and pop up, then dive again and go round and round.
