What shot size and choke combo do you like?

Briley Light Modified (just switched to it after my wife bought me one for Christmas) and Win. Drylock BB's 3.5's. Looks to be a good setup (I was using IC before), even though I haven't patterned it yet. It nocked 'em stone dead the first two hunts I took it on, so I've got faith in it.

I got one of them Patternmaster chokes about mid-season. Worst $74.99 I ever spent! I usually use HeviShot 3" #4's and a full choke. I shot the Patternmaster w/ #2 Kent 3.5s. The first mornin' I used it, I shot at (at being the key word here

) three different groups of them fatheads, unloaded on 'em too. Not ONE damn duck fell. I was unscrewing that POS out of my barrel before everybody else had quit shootin' :shock:

! The only other choke I had in my bag was a modified. The next flight that came in I drew feathers on 2 different birds at ~30 yds and neither one of them fell. I went back to my trusty HeviShot with a full choke. I've been knockin' 'em down ever since. I figured I'd get out cheaper by spending $75 on a choke and save $ by shootin' steel, but I'm willin' to spend more on a shell that will knock 'em dead rather than see nothing but feathers fly. It takes at least two shells to even cripple the bird with steel shot, but that HeviShot will lay 'em down dead.

Anybody every tried those Browning "Duck Commander" chokes? I was thinking of getting a couple for my 28" Citori 3.5. I just use factory IMP in top and MOD in bottom with #2 kent 3" or BB kent 3.5.

10 ga BPS with Mod Briley choke #3 my loads. 12 ga 835 23/4 #5 with Xtra full turkey choke :roll:

Guys,... I had a briley choke installed on a 10 ga. I loved it !

My question is, Since the sporting goods store I used, is no longer in bussiness, Who would I use, if I were so inclined, to put one on my 12 ga.

Another question : Must all of the existing threads on the present choke system be cut off ? How does this work ? Is it worth the cost ? Is the only time you would attempt this, under the circumstance of not being pleased with the performance of the existing choke system ?

Yeah...I'm gonna let him put it in his 870 to try it out. Told him I'd sell it to him cheap if he liked it. Hope he likes it... I would like to get a few $ back on that POS. Maybe I just wasn't used to it or need to shoot it a little more, but I don't want to be missin' ducks till then, especially now that them sprigtails are in season :shock:

Rip Em, why don't you let Briley put it in for you? Check out http://www.briley.com for pricing, etc.

As for the second question I'd call Briley and see what they can do because they may be able to just ream it out and install their chokes in the same section of the barrel that the old choke went into (wall thickness shouldn't be a problem because all the major firearm manufacturers do is heat up and thread an unchoked barrel, they don't remove any metal and even if it is briley offers thin wall chokes). However what choke system is it, Briley offers chokes for most of the major systems, and that may offer a better solution than having it threaded for the briley system (unless the choke system in your barrel isn't concentric). If it were me I'd just buy Briley chokes for my choke system.

Shoot Drylock, #2's, 3.5" and the improvement is powder load--1 9/16 oz. I know that sounds high, but my collect ratio this year is about 75 to 80 per cent. Prior loads with 1.25 oz did not yield this collection ratio.

hey dude-thats the shot charge, not the powder load--powder is in dram equivalents, as in 3 3/4, 4, max, etc.

If any of you guys are interested, we do custom chokes(duck,turkey,and buckshot). We first pattern your gun with your choke then pattern it with ours. If we can't improve your percentage then you don't owe us a dime.
Custom chokes cost $85.00, this includes patterning both chokes. Just bring us your gun, what type of shells you shoot and your choke. And I'll say again if we can't improve your percentage with our choke then you won't owe us a dime.
