ANY BRICKLAYERS

Are there any of you guys bricklayers? If so i what are yall getting a 1000 and are yall still as busy as you was 6 months ago? I run a small operation and we went from being 5 houses behind to doing entry ways and outside kitchens...just wondering if it was like this for anyone else???

Its not just the brick layers the whole market is in just about a freeze. If no ones building houses then no where to lay brick, pipe, or wood. What does a brick layer get for doing the outside kitchen? I need one and two columns at the end of my drive.

As outside kitchens price can range from a few hundred to thousands. It is according to size and shape? Columns from 500.00 to 2000.00 according to size?

You do any of the pavers? I have been wanting to try it, but haven't seen what the use for the base layer. Thats pretty big around here. My neighbor had someone come in and do his drivway looks good and its fun watching his youngin try to skateboard now, good thing he has a helmet.

on my house. Where can I find someone in north ms that can match the brick that I already have?


Back to the pricing thing........ what's the going rate for brick masons right now?

Dusty: i did a pretty large paver patio/walkway/garden area at my house. it's really not that hard to do; just time consuming if you don't have any help. it took me 3 weeks of nights after work and weekends to complete mine. holler at me for some basics on it. and obviously, judging by mine, you don't need the landscaping fabric....it's high;, and i have weeds coming up. use a base course of slag, then sand to grade, then screed the sand and place bricks on it.

I know the housing around here is still pretty slow, however seems to picking up a little from this time 6 months ago. good luck to you ; some people are saying it's gonna get a lot worse.

My family has owned a brick manufactoring plant since 1927 and the last couple years have been very hard with the economy the way it is. In all these yrs my dad was never one that brough buisness home to his family life(if and when he did he didnt let it show to his kids) but the few times I get to go home now and spend time with him I can see how its playing a heavy toll on both his mind and health. Everyone says the housing market is climbing back but those who work it day in and day out will tell you diff. There still selling to there distributers but its slow and individuals are very very very rare to stopping by and looking/priceing.

As far as laying pavers there are two ways of doing them. If doing new walkway or driveway is a base layer of gravel for water drainage then a layer of sand then putting pavers down in ever pattern you choose. Then stake your edger down to keep the pavers from shifting around the edges. Then last thing is to put fine sand on top and sweep the cracks full. The other way is to glue them to existing concrete slab then fill joints with morter.




As far as matching i would suggest general shale brick tupelo, ms ask for mitchell. as far as prices ours start at 350.00 a thousand for modular brick and 450.00 for queen brick. fireplug if any futher questions pm me.

how do i control the algae that's coming up out of the cracks?
I like the way it looks/wife doesn't.
i used the first method you described above, crushed stone, then sand, then bricks and swept full of sand at joints.

Gilreath- my in laws had a big area done and where the down spots come out they are having a prob with moss. I hit it with round up and it seems to have helped. I am sure there prob is something to keep it from growing better than round up

use a fungicide, algea is a fungus, roundup is a herbicide. There are several diff brands that I recommend to people for use of Turf and it should be good on brick as well. let me know if you would like a couple names and I can pass them on to you.

Duckkiller has the right idea.. I bet the spot your having the problem is shaded?

yes the spots i am having trouble with are shaded. i will try the fungicide. thanks
