Tunica

Postby Bates » Tue Dec 30, 2003 10:50 pm

Alright lads, need a little help. Want to do some traveling up Tunica way but am not sure. I am focusung on Tunica Lake, Flower Lake, and Moon Lake. Can someone comment or PM me on wheather these are public access areas and if there are areas on the lake that can be hunted. Willow breaks, flodded timber areas and the sort? Public acces to Tunica looks limited but I cant tell. What about the other two?

tunica has public access via private ramps. The water is dropping limiting where you can hunt....although its easier in low water, just step from boat to boat no need to run your motor...just a excuse me every once in awhile as you cross over the hundred or so boats per acre. ALso no ducks anywhere in the North Delta unless you have fields to hunt. Sorry for the grim news but the truth is better than a lie.

This won't help you any now, but for an idea of what it used to be like hunting Tunica back in the old days, see page 34 of the current issue (no 7/v28) of Gray's Sporting Journal.

Go to Malmaison, it has public access. Get in line at 5am. Post a lookout at your truck while you are hunting. Race others through 2 inches of water to get a hole. Boy, it is so much fun! You have to experience it to appreciate public hunting in MS. The Oxbows are to easy, you don't feel like you have worked hard enough if you hunt one of them.

I Dont use guides, even if it is free which I highly doubt. Guides take all the fun out of it. Half the fun is finding the birds and then setting up and calling them in. Most anyone can shoot.

i hunted it last sunday, the locals think the best areas belong to them whether thier huntin it or not.there was some good shootin in the morning but that evening not a bird on the lake.i think the pressure is running them off.there is a lot of permanent blinds out there but if noones in one than its legal to hunt next to them .just bring a friend in case you need to kick some ass!ill be out there sunday again so maybe ill see ya

I dont see nothing wrong in hunting over someone elses decoy's as long as you respect their property. What would you do if they came out a few minutes before legal shooting time? I aint going to argue this cause its done been argued a hundred times...but maybe this is why places like the scatters had to post a launch time and enforce regulations that make it hard on everyone....

Bates, for somebody that wants to find the ducks on his own, you sure have been asking a lot of questions around here. You wont use a guide, but you will ask the world about their public hunting areas. How about not asking anymore questions and finding out for yourself since you don't like guides.

Gadwal, Its called research so that I might have a clue when I go scouting. I've met some very nice people on this sight who, like myself, who will share information with each other so that we may be able to find a few ducks. Im sorry if your toes get stepped on, not. Dont you have some shooters to guide or a tire or two to flatten at the local ramp.

I'd have to agree with Gadwall2, Bates you say its research well research is usually done these days on the internet,,,,I think you maybe confusing research with wanting someone to give you more than a basic idea...you asked about ramps, and blinds....etc.....sorry but if I was planning a trip out of My area this weekend I dont think I start researching the area the same week. Calm down a little and you'll get all the research results you'll ever need.
