Rubber Mats for Stainless Box

Postby stmasley » Thu Apr 30, 2009 3:52 pm

My dog has destroyed 2 "anti-fatigue" mats in 2 months (she never so much as tore the corner off of a mat during the first 6 months I owned the box - but for some reason she recently started freaking out and tries to dig out of the box when I park the truck too close to the gunshots, etc.)

Does anyone know of a more durable mat that my stupid dog will at least have a harder time trying to destroy? Has anyone tried the NatMats (sp?)?

Stephen,

I've tried several different mats over the years with varying success. But, I think if a dog really wants to destroy a mat, they're going to :?

Here are some examples of what I've tried:

Dri-Dek. They make a semi-soft grid that snaps together and is micobe resistant. Originally for showers, etc in public places. I still have some somewhere I use in a crate. Kinda expensive.

No Fault makes a flexible rubber matting that is tough as nails. Downside is it gets hot and doesn't drain at all. I have some I'll bring up your way next time I come up, if you want a piece. It's the mat we used that day we trained at BRK and I know some of the folks who work there so I might could get some scraps.

Regular old, holed kitchen mats from Home Depot. I think I like these best. These are the ones with the holes that snap together for a custom fit. They let water and hair thru and are cooler in our climate. Pretty cheap but durable. Downside, they have a peculiar smell that never seems to go away and your dogs smell like it

Haven't tried NatMats

Oh well, nothing's perfect......

Stephen,

Hmmm...Do.you.think.it.might.be.a.dog.training.problem.and.not.a.mat.
problem?...Do.you.think.it.might.be.frustration.of.not.getting.her.way?...
That.she.wants.to.retrieve.,but.instead.is.locked.in.the.kennel?...Is.she
noisy.and.antsy.in.her.kennel.when.the.guns.go.bang,because.she.
expects.a.retrieve?...Does.she.bark.or.whine.when.other.dogs.get.to
fetch.and.she.is.locked.in.the.kennel.or.has.to.honor.another.retriever?

I.personally.would.try.not.to.allow.the.habit.of.chewing.mats.or.being.

Negative Ghostrider. I have a friend with an "untrained" AFC that does the same thing.

D4, hmmmmmmm - are you sure it is a space bar problem and not an owner/operator problem ... Do you think the computer is frustrated because it wants to type periods and you keep hitting the space bar? What else do you let it get away with?? HMMMMM
I would never allow my computer to act like that -

how old is the computer?

Sorry, couldn't help it -

99% of the time the dog is very calm in her box (even at HT's) - I am not worried about it

Thanks for the info Kevin - I may order a couple of those "chew proof" natmats - I will let you know how they hold up

Happy FRIEDday Delana! Masley, if you would throw that dog some therapy marks every now and then that sweet girl of yours wouldn't have all that agression towards those defenseless mats.
