40 hp Yamaha Outboard grinding???

Guys the last 2 times I have taken my boat out it runs perfect and all but when I go in reverse and then go to neutral I have a little grinding noise and I don't know what it could be. I just replaced throttle and shift cables during duck season. I took off the shroud and I don't see anything in the motor???? anyone have a clue????? Thanks Trey

my 30 hp will grind a little when in neutral. but if i play with the throttle handle just a smidge it stops.. its a very slight grind. so much so that i've asked others if they heard it and we had to sit there and listen for it.. probably something that could be fixed with some adjustment
