My buddy needs our help! (update)
Guys, this is a prayer request!
I've got a buddy that was born with spinabifida (not sure I spelled that right) He has spent all of his life on crutches or in a wheel chair, mostly the chair. When he was born the doctors said he might live to seventeen. He is now 27. He is very proud of that but I think he feels like he is living on borrowed time and when he experiences complications, it gives him more of a scare than most of us would experience. About a year ago he found out that he has a very rare condition that causes his spinal fluid to form in cists on the out side of his spine rather than on the inside. Shortly after, the cists sort of went away. He found out yesterday that they are back. There aparently is only one doctor in the country that handles this condition, and he has only seen one other case! The doctor and my budy are now facing two surgeries. The first is rather routine and not a big deal, but if it doesn't completely correct the problem they will have to perform a second surgery. This second surgery is one that is as dangerous as the condition. By that I mean that the disease will kill him without the surgery and that there is a VERY high probability that the surgery itself will kill him. I feel like I'm overstating this, but that is how I understand the situation as it stands now.
I know he would appreciate it if you would all remember him in your prayers. And, in a situation like this, if feel like prayers for the surgeon are just as important.
Thanks guys! I'll keep you posted as I learn more.

There is only so much a surgeon can do. He does the best that he can and the left is up to the good Lord. I know from experience. You can't overstate spine surgery- it's just too complex and the stakes are too high. Have faith in the Big Man upstairs. They say that every day in Heaven you can shoot a limit. His first surgery took place at 10am today. I hear that everything went very well and he is doing fine! I had lunch with him on Friday and he was very optomistic and hopeful that this first, routine, surgery would correct the problems. Said his doc was also optomistic. The doctor will give a MAXIMUM of two months for the condidition to correct itself before performing the second, more dangerous, surgery. Everyone hopes it doesn't come to that.
When I had lunch with him, he was visibly scared and anxious but I wish you all could have seen his face when I told him about all you guys that are praying for him. He took on a look of total confidence and I saw alot of the fear leave him. If nothing else, your prayers helped calm his nerves! But I know they did much more than that! Keep up the good work!
Thanks again and I will continue to keep you posted as I learn more.
