BEAR!!!

Postby torch » Fri Dec 26, 2003 11:58 am

Went to pick up NoAngel this am. His rotwieler and lab have been missing for 2 days. They showed up last night and had been mauled by a bear. We have seen this bear a couple of times earlier. The lab caught one blow on the shoulder and has some deep wounds. The rot has gashes in about 4 places. I have seen dogs that have been in fights but nothing like this. I can put my thumb in most of the gashes and they are deep.

Dot your i's and cross your t's, torch. Bears draw attention from important people.

Hope the dogs are doing alright.

Call the Natural Science Museum in Jackson and ask for Brad Young.
He is a Black Bear biologist with the state.

Bear

Postby Coot » Sun Dec 28, 2003 3:01 pm

I've seen two black bears in Mississippi, both at ranges of less than 75 yards. I don't know how many are in the state, but we definitely have a least a few. I saw one near French Camp about three years ago and I watched a cub climb a tree near Baxterville back when I was in college a decade ago (boy, that hurts to say).

I read once about an Indian guide who said, "A bear gives you something to think about." True, especially if it's your woods.

The Warden came by a camp in Claiborne County and reported a BIG black bear and warned DO NOT SHOOT THAT BEAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The Warden just caught a spotlighter who shot a spike on our place. Excellent job!
