Report on First Duck

Postby Coot » Sat Dec 27, 2003 7:52 pm

Took my six year daughter and four year old son with me this morning since the weather was so mild. Sister doesn't like to shoot, but loves to qwee on the wood duck call and chatter on the shaker tube. She called in a couple of groups for us this morning and my son shot his first duck, a drake woodie :D ! The boy was completely beside himself. We've called the whole family. I thought you guys might enjoy the story.

cool..... now hooked for life.
Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

I too was wondering what a 4 year old boy would shoot as well. Must be big for his age. Congrats to the kid, heck he shot more ducks yesterday than I did! :D I gotta find a new hobby. :?

My first duck was a woodie, and I will always remember the hunt. It is great that you are able to take your children with you. Keep taking them and have loads of fun. Jack
Shoot them sprigs on their first pass!

OK, the bird was on the water (even though he remembers that it was just about to land). He used my gun (12 gauge with IC choke and #4 shot) and did the aiming and trigger, I held it up and played backstop. He lined up that squealer at 25 yds and shot him like a turkey. We've been practicing shots like this since July (started with a BB gun) and he's gotten pretty good.

My little guy is completely hooked on hunting, period. He loves the whole experience. He has to "shoot" every duck I bring home and even helps me clean them. He really likes to see what they've been eating.

He told me last night he wants to get a "gweenhead" next, then a big buck. Hey, I'm looking for both of those, too.
