Wouldn't it be something if time proved that both PML and I were both right in a way and wrong in a way? What if GW is in fact a real phenomena, caused by fossil fuel emissions, but it has the perverse effect of changing weather patters in favor of increased waterfowl migrations in the Delta? For example, the flood of 2008 in the Mid-West that knocked about 5MM acres of beans and corn out of production, giving the birds little to eat north of us, and the August rains on 2008 in the Delta that recharged our wetlands and insured plenty of water when the winter rains came.

For you newcomers to the thread, it should only take you a few hours to read the preceding 60 pages and figure out what the heck I am talking about.

Greetings Gents:

Fresh off the best duck season of my 38 year career and on the eve of what promises to be an outstanding turkey season, I wanted to throw a little gasoline on the fire and see what sort of flash might flare up this go round as we continue our march to 100. To wit:

The current economic malaise a/k/a the financial crisis that Obama and Dems are using as an excuse to roll out every left wing, socialist agenda item they could not ruin the country with in the last 50 years virtually insuring that the cure will be far worse than what ails us will have a definite silver lining in terms of Global Warming because every model projecting increased rates of GHG emissions/increased GW is based on ever expanding economic activity- particularly in the US and China.

But guess what happened on the way to rodeo? Collapse of the $4T shadow banking system assembled by the Wall Street shysters while the Washington shysters looked the other way. Note that the $10T domestic commerical banking system is safe and sound. It is the virtually unregulated shadow banking system of investment banks, hedge funds and that like that have precipitated the biggest financial panic in the US since the Great Depression. GDP is down about 10%. Add another 10% and we will have ourselves an official depression no matter how Obama and Company try to spin it...

In other words, Wall Street and the Fed have done what the UN, Al Gore and many other GW alarmists have thus far not been able to do They have actually decreased the rate of growth of GHG emissions by slowing world economic growth to a standstill. Wouldnt it be ironic if this worldwide recession/depression bought us enough time to develop technological solutions as opposed to a bunch of European style command and control? I remain convinced that it ought to be technically possible to build air cleaning plants that suck in air, separate out and store C and release O2 without all the gyrations of regulating CO2 emissions, much less trying to sequester them. Perhaps the economic crisis will buy us enough time to develop such solutions.

I remain convinced that it ought to be technically possible to build air cleaning plants that suck in air, separate out and store C and release O2 without all the gyrations of regulating CO2 emissions, much less trying to sequester them. Perhaps the economic crisis will buy us enough time to develop such solutions.

In chemistry, most things are *technically possible* while not actually being anywhere close to feasible. For example, gold can be made synthetically -- real gold. Gold made in such a way would cost orders of magnitude more than what comes out of the ground, however.

IMO, this is a microcosm of most of the environmental movement. Lots of things are possible, but the ones leading the charge often have no clue as to the social and economic tradeoffs.

Good point 'Stang. My intent with the word "gyrations" was inclusive of cost, not to mention reality. A lot of the stuff they are coming up with to after the fact remove GHG emissions is pure crap as far as I am concerned. Give me a technological solution to suck CO2 out of the air, removing the C and releasing the O2 and I am good.

I do believe CO2 pollution is a problem- not because it causes GW- but because we have changed the chemistry of the air we breathe in less than 300 years. Less oxygen in our air = more dumb arses running around being dumb arses. Scientific fact that homo sapiens evolved in oxygen rich environment. The more O2 the better.

Good point 'Stang. My intent with the word "gyrations" was inclusive of cost, not to mention reality. A lot of the stuff they are coming up with to after the fact remove GHG emissions is pure crap as far as I am concerned. Give me a technological solution to suck CO2 out of the air, removing the C and releasing the O2 and I am good.

I do believe CO2 pollution is a problem- not because it causes GW- but because we have changed the chemistry of the air we breathe in less than 300 years. Less oxygen in our air = more dumb arses running around being dumb arses. Scientific fact that homo sapiens evolved in oxygen rich environment. The more O2 the better.
