Am I wrong?
I have a 19 year old step daughter who lives at home and goes to school 2 days a week, am I wrong for making her get a part time job? Her car is paid for and her mother and I have paid all her bills til this month, we cut her off and I dont know where she came up with her insurance payment but it was sitting on the counter sat when I got up for work. Now when I mention a job I just get the usual teenage lip, and it really pisses me off when I come home from work and ask what she did today?

Nope, but I would ask your wife about her insurance money....

I dont know how a kid would NOT want a job.
Too much stuff to buy that my folks should have known where I was getting the money. At least right now you know what what she has the money to buy.
Think about it.

I know for sure my wife didnt give her the insurance money, Now the grandparents thats another story. It just makes me mad that this child refuses to work. Today is my off day and I said something to her and got the "stop bothering me, I dont feel good" I just simole told her if she was at work she wouldnt have to worry about me bothering her.

19? Its long since been job time. If those 2 days a week aren't full time, it prolly wouldn't be a bad idea for her to find a new place to hang her purse as well.
+1 for asking the wife about the insurance payment.

I'm not going to say I loved working part time odd jobs through high school and college but I'm glad I did it. As my dad said "Summer jobs and part time jobs are to show you what you don't want to do for a living. You better study"

Not the money, just tired of her laid up on the couch watching tv, I told her that she needed to help around the house and everything she does is half @$$. Her mother was the one who told me she needed to get a job because she was tired of going behind her.

What is it with these kids these days? I started mowing yards when I was about 12. No, it wasn't much income, and the mower was my parents', but it taught me some work ethic and a little responsibility. Of course, you can't work full-time while in school, but weekend and afternoon work never hurt anyone.
It seems most of these kids now days don't go to work until the day they get out of college. They've never had to pay for anything on their own and don't have a clue what work is. Then they are thrust into the world of bill paying and self-suffience and are lost as a goose.
I think we owe it to them to get them working before all of that happens. And I think that leather strap that holds up your pants needs to come off on certain occasions. Obedience training isn't just for labs.

Re: Am I wrong?
Nope, you are in the right.
I got my first job at 13. Dishwasher in a restaurant. In 9th grade I started working for a vet and worked there thu my first year at Hinds CC. Went to Southern Miss and my mom said I didn't need a job and that i should spend that time studying. I wonder why I DID VERY POORLY THAT SEMESTER!!! Got a job at a vet in Hattiesburg and worked on the VFD near my house thru the rest of college. I finished with a 3.5.
A job teaches a young person a lot. Make her get one even if it is just for her spending money (like you pay her bills and her check is what she can do things on). I had to pay for my gas, cell phone (the old bag phone, ahh, memories), insurance, etc. I am still not that good with money but it taught me to be better.

Sounds like her mother needs to be riding her @$$ about the job and doing stuff around the house. Step daughter has to respect you because she lives at your house, but I would imagine serious convos like that would go better if they came from mom.
