1 gray duck (killed it 10 yrs ago. all of the numbers were almost worn off. he was 12)

8 mallards (killed one this yr. first one since the gray duck, 10 yrs ago)

2 wood ducks
one of the woodie bands has an interesting story. it was killed when i was 18. its hard for people to believe but i have one witness that was standing right beside me. we were hunting in timber outside of drew. a lone greenhead was passing over and i pulled up and dropped him with one shot but as soon as i shot him i had something hit the water the opposite direction and while i was trying to figure out what it was a blackbird was in a death helicopter drop and fell right beside me. my buddy that was hunting with me yelled out "you killed all three of 'em". apparently, as hard as it is to believe, a greenhead, blackbird and a banded drake wood duck crossed at the exact time i pulled the trigger, from different directions. i never saw any of the others. i guess i was concentrating on the greenhead.

I've heard of bands on geese around golf courses.

I will be banding scaup in about two weeks. We will be banding approximately 2000 next month. You can read about it in the this months DU magazine. The article mentions them wintering on catfish ponds in MS. :D

Bands have always been a fascination to me with the stories behind them and the thought of the miles traveled. Luck has followed me through a lot of years of waterfowl hunting. I've shot a lot of banded waterfowl, among them:
Mallard
Black Duck
Wood Duck
Wigeon
Pintail
Green-wing
Blue-wing
Cinnamon
Harliquin Duck
Barrow's Goldeneye
Ring-neck duck
Canvasback
Canada goose, including several subspecies.
White-fronted Goose
Blue Goose
Snow Goose
Ross' Goose
Tundra Swan
Lesser Scaup
Oddly, not a Gadwall.

Also Mourning Dove and Merriam's Turkey.

I'm not really sure and somebody would call BS if I guessed. I know the last count my sons did several years ago and have killed quite a few since then. Only got 5 this year, could have had a couple more, but declined the coin toss and let them go to another hunter. Guess I'm getting mellow in my old age. I've been quite lucky. My first Mallard Drake, Blue-wing Drake, Wood Duck Drake and Canada Goose were all banded with the goose carrying a Jack Miner Band. We averaged one Mallard band for every 80 killed this season at the camp which is pretty high. A lot of old birds though. One I shot that I would have never gotten that Ace found after one of my less than stellar shots was banded in 1995 and two others that members killed were 10 year old birds. All this is quite interesting to me. We also had a cholera die-off and we picked up 6 dead Snows/Blues that were banded out of about 200 out of our fields which is a high average considering my sons, et.al. killed 275 one day a couple of weeks ago and only got 2. Again, lucky versus good! I've been asked a lot of times about how to skew things in your favor for getting them and I rank a good dog first and foremost and a fast one doesn't hurt either  . I always follow up on cripples and when I used to hunt public areas I'd work my dog through cover when I had the chance coming out from a hunt. I've also seen quite a few bands on birds before I shot them. Most people focus on the bird, I focus on the feet when they are in close. One day this year we saw two birds dragging rice stubble but couldn't get them into the spread. Chances are the stubble was tangled in a band. I've killed several that way. Look for something different!

So what was the last count, I would be willing to bet a Benjiman that there were over a 100 on the cork board that I saw if not closer to 250...

I forgot two other species I've killed with bands. Atlantic and Pacific(Black) Brant. I killed another banded Ross' yesterday also. To answer your question it's over 250.
