Avery Pintail decoys

Postby Marty N. » Wed Dec 17, 2003 2:04 pm

I bought a dozen of the new pintail decoys, that are painted like the hand carved presentation decoys. I have used them off and on for the past 3 weeks. And this may sound strange but they consistanly FLAIR ducks. At first I thought it was my placement of them and the location I was hunting in. But the last 5 trips put them out and watched ducks flair off of them time again. I would pick them up and ducks would work and decoy like they should. I guess they just look to REAL??? Has anyone noticed this with this brand of decoy. I pulled them up and replaced them with another brand of Pintail decoys and birds fell into them. I have always had one or two dozen pintail dekes in my spread, I switched brand because of the look of the paint on them. Guess I'll use my old deke's the rest of the season.

gundog

I always felt that marketers tried to appeal to the hunter not the hunted which makes sense financially

ever notice how fishing lures get newer and shinier every year...did the old lures quit working? dont think so

same goes for decoys in my book, shiny paint and detail are for the hunters I have always hated the tail feather hook on mallard drake decoys does this really make that much difference to the duck? it sure would make my decoy anchor lines and bags last longer same goes for the sprig on pintail decoys, cant they make that thing flexible or just remove it

hate to hear theres a product that actually flaires the birds but I think new and improved is just a ploy to get us to spend our dollars

I think they look good. I feel though w/ the hunting pressure..... They know when something is out of place. I havn't hardly seen any pintails this year. Not yet anyways.

Marty.....the ducks don't want to have anything to do with Tom Matthews', either.....good-loookin' decoys or not. THAT's the problem. :?
