spinning wing decoys in timber.......

Postby dukbum » Wed Dec 17, 2003 11:39 am

i have seen where some people have not even used a spinning wing this year yet. me personally have not set one out yet! just wondering if you would be more likely to use one ( in some-what think timber) just to get there attention? just curious about those (kinda high-flyers) limits to all.... and bands for many......

Dukbum, you won't ever get a reply to someone actually admitting that they use spinners even though I know there are some people on here that do.....

Myself personally, I don't have to. Coots are stupid as rocks and they hit the bottom of my cooker like a rock too....
What'd ya shoot that coot fer????

Well I use them in self defense, the area's I hunt have gotten so crowded with folks using them, if you don't you won't get a chance to shoot. I have a shut off on mine and when the ducks start working I shut it off, seems to help bring them in amongst all the other spinner's. And I have used them in timber with some success.

I hunt over a couple of 'em in a rice field. It's not that I think they're magic (although when they first came out, they did seem to pull the ducks in), but now I'm just afraid not to have 'em. Kinda like Gundog said "in self defense". I've never used 'em in timber, and don't think I'd bother to be honest. It might help pull in a few birds, but that's an awful lot of setup before a hunt (in the rice field we just set 'um on the pole and hook up the battery). I'd me more apt to use a quiver magnet or some similar contraption that'd just add some ripples to the water. Just my 2 cents.

I have 3 spinners. If it is to deep for a spinner on a pole, I have 2 that float. Been working for me.
