I WAS AT MUSCADINE ON 11-29 WITH MY TWO OLDEST KIDS AND WE HAD A GOOD HUNT. PICKED UP 4 MALLARDS 3 GADWALL AND THREE TEAL. SAW LITTERALLY THHOUSANDS OF DUCKS AND GEESE AND THEY WORKED EXTREMLY WELL FOR PUBLIC LAND DUCKS. NOT CROWED AND NO SKY BUSTIN PROBABLY HELPED. WILL RETURN 12-06 WITH A FRIEND AND AGAIN ON 01-03 WITH MY DAUGHTER WHO KILLED HER FIRST GREENHEAD BY THE WAY.
Did you shoot?

I went by there today. Doesnt look like there is any water in some of the holes. Surely they will put me in a hole that has water in it. I got drawn for tomorrow.

Let us know how you did Xpress. I am drawn for Jan 22. Surely there will be water then. And hopefully ducks too!!

Hunting there on Dec. 13

Postby msudog » Tue Dec 02, 2003 2:13 pm

I did not get drawn but my brother did and we will be hunting out there on Dec. 13. Hope there are lots of ducks.

I would liket of hear some feedback from others that have been there about bringing stuff for a blind or did you just hide in the brush. We have never been up there and will be coming from Biloxi.

Thanks,

Rode up to MF this morning and talked to several hunters as they were leaving. They said there were a bunch of ducks in there this morning, but that they all left before shooting time. I didn't see a dead duck while I was there. I did, however, see some jackhole/jackholes skybust a greenhead at about 75 yards high. If the guilty person or persons are reading this, I just want you to know that at least half a dozen people witnessed your flagrant display of stupidity. You're lucky the road was too tore up to turn around on cause I would have reported you. Hopefully, one of the other witnesses did so that such an ignoramus is banned from returning.
Anyway, there's still very little water, and the hunting appeared to be very disappointing. I was under the impression that MF was pumping into the holes to ensure water. But maybe not. The concensus seems to aggree that at least one of the MF managers could give a rip. Go figure.

we hunted Tuesday there and it was pretty slow, saw and heard hundreds of mallards before daylight and worked several ducks right before shooting light but it pretty much stopped at daylight.
I did manage to pass shoot a speck.
xpress and my brother in law were off checking the other 2 ponds we had drawn to find out there was no water in them.
I also worked a group of shouvlers while they were gone.
If your planning to hunt there I recommend a big spread.
Dont make a sound going in and use no lights. We spooked off several hundred ducks before daylight and they never came back!!!!!

If youve never been there before you need to ask directions from the manager because xpress had scouted it the day before and before daylight we still werent sure where we were....
The ponds arent marked on the gravel road..

The organization was good. It was very quick when we checked in. The place can use some work. It looks to me that there is a possibility you could draw a spot that has no water. I cant be sure. Our spot didnt have much. I did see lot of birds early and the geese flew all morning. I didnt hear any shooting at all the day we went other than steel shot mowing down a speck. It was slow, but I will be glad to go back, the overall experience was pretty good.

Has anyone heard or seen if the recent rains have put any more water in the otherwise unhuntable ponds?

Hunted Muscidine last year and had the same experience as Xspress. Alot of bird early but not much action after shooting hours. Not many people there when we were there and the birds had many places to go and not get shot at. There is a farm called Possum Ridge farms right down the road who had baited a 60 acre rice field with beans and had every duck in the county there. Needless to say they were busted and shut down. Talked to a Gamewarden there and he said the feds were called in on the field.
If it's head ain't gren it ain't a duck !

How's things looking at MF? Just wondering if the rains this weekend helped any. I'll be up there in the morning, so at least give me a reason to make the trip! Unrealistic expectaions welcome. So far this year, the daydreams I've had while hunting have been far better than the hunting itself.

Slim Jim....

I can't think of the name of that place, but I think they run a limo service out of there too. Maybe you can get a stretch SUV to take you to your hole!
