Started wearing them more this year. I have always gotten headaches from shooting, although I never new the reason. It was common practice for me to carry around a bottle of Excedrin to enjoy a hunt, as a migrain will stop most anything. For no other reason, I put a pair in one afternoon and the headache didn't come, and my shooting % increased. I imagine I had began to 'flinch' from the sound. Anyway, to answer your post, I wear them hunting.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

I wear one in my left ear (shoot right handed) unless I'm in a pit. Then I'll wear both.

Always wear them shooting doves.

I wear the magnum ear custom in ear. They are expensive but I had a good connection and the doc said I had to get them. I am 32 and have a 20-30% hearing loss from shooting guns. They are fantastic and allow you to hear ducks, deer, and any other critter out there.

As far as the duck calling goes, I always make it a habit to make sure I hunt with someone that can call better than me.

I have the similar version from EAR (analog, not digital). I use them for doves, pheasant, birds, everything but ducks. I use a foamy in my left ear for ducks, and keep the right open.
So many ducks, so little time....

We use to use Sonic ear valves for years......until my first shot in Canada last year. I had them 'in'......sat-up to whack a goose 10 feet over my footbag and my left ear went numb.

So, I went to foamies........wife has too much trouble communicating with me......always frowning and mumbling something else I can't hear......'probably better-off not knowing what she said, but I can tell she isn't pleased with whatever I did....or didn't do.....not to mention my being totally unresponsive.

I tried muffs this year.......what a cluster bomb. Between glasses, face mask, duck calls, gloves, hoodlum, and muffs.....I spent more time adjusting stuff than looking for ducks. One time, I sat down on a log against a tree that had a little limb sticking out over my head. I was getting all set.....put the muffs over my ears and in so doing....pinned the limb between the muffs and my hat. Needles to say when I went to move or turn my head I flet this constant resistance........Man, you talk about feeling like a DUFUS.....Jeez!!

So, I'll try something with micro-processor baffles or something like that......it's a real problem, but it's a bigger problem when everybody else knows there's ducks overhead and your totally oblivious. "HUH?....HUH?......WHAT?........I CAN"T HEAR YOU.......HUH?.......hey y'all, there's ducks RIGHT THERE!"........and they've known about it for a good 3 minutes.

wear the ear mufs with the sound canceling, they are stero so I can hear what going on but something only as load as a hand clap will shut the sound out. Caldwell's for 30.00. Good investment for me, now my ears don't ring as bad after a hunt.

Almost every time I am in the pit I have baffled ear plugs. Helps a lot

I hunted several times this year....4 people in a boat. I was the only one wearing earplugs (wax type for swimmers). You talking about getting you your eardrums blasted. It blows my mind people don't wear earplugs while shooting shotguns.

I only wear them when I deer hunt with my pistol. Big bang in the timber = big ache in the head.

I've never felt like I needed them duck hunting though except in a pit. I had a rookie ring my ears so bad in a pit that I thought I had been shot in the side of the head. Couldn't see straight for several minutes. When I recovered enough to be able to hear myself cuss I gave the poor guy a curring to remember.

I had alot of ear problems as a kid and lost about 40% of hearing in both ears. I'm deaf. I couldn't imagine wearing earplugs too.
