Re: Yard Chemical Question
Monument! one chemical you can spray it anytime as a pre an post. Its expensive but it takes the guess work out. It will not set your bermuda back at all.

Also, what is a good pre-emergent for centipede?
Bermuda contorl- Sethoxdim (common name is poast or vantage......may be others as well)
Pre emerge-Barricade, pendamithilan, simazine (basically same as bermuda or zoysia just follow label)

You can use Barricade, pednimethalin, and simazine as mentioned above on St. augustine. 3-way herbicide such as Trimec 992, vessel etc can also be used post emerge broadleafs. I'm not very familiar with St augustine because i just don't see it up where i live, but you'll be fine using the pre emerge and post emerge I mentioned as long as you follow the label.

I'm not sure what you are asking.

I don't believe this is quite accurate. I believe Monument is mostly used for control of sedges and doesn't offer any pre emerge qualities. I also believe it only suppresses common weeds such as crabgrass when applied as a post emerge while offering no residual for germinating seeds.
Re: Yard Chemical Question
i need to spray about 5 acres with MSMA - is there a sprayer you can pull behind a 4 wheeler or lawn mower ? Can you rent one somewhere?
Re: Yard Chemical Question
Well ride by Ridgeland High School about June 1st, you will see 2 practice fields an one game field with some damn good looking mspride bermuda, thats all we spray. Sprayed last week to be exact. So I may be wrong but the proof will be there.

Re: Yard Chemical Question
Was out in the yard yesterday putting out ant poison and thinking about spraying roundup for the winter grasses already there. I thought I saw some of my centipede already greening up? Did I or was it just some kind of winter grass peaking through? Just don't want to hurt the little bit of grass I have right now.

You need to be able to classify what type of weeds are present when dealing with centipede more so than any other grass because centipede does not handle 2,4-d well. Weeds are classified into 2 major categories when it comes to control. There are grassy weeds and broadleaf weeds. Then that is divided into winter annuals, summer annuals, and winter and summer perinnials. (Sedge control is a whole different ballgame, so I've left it out of classifaction)
That being said, you are dealing with winter broadleafs (ex. henbit, chickweed, carolina geranium, etc) and winter grassy weeds (poa annua and certain types of fescue). Some may be perinnials and some may be annuals. (ex of winter broadleaf perinnials...dandelion, plantain, clover, etc. ex of winter grassy perinnial .....field fescue)
This is why pre emerge is so important in the fall. It actually prevents the (annual) weeds and perinnial seeds that you are seeing this time of the year. Perinnials present right now must be killed using post emerge products such as Image on centipede if you are seeing your grass starting to green up. Next fall you can control both with a proper pre emerge treatment.
My question to you would be; are you really seeing centipede or are you seeing poa annua, rye, or fescue present right now. If you are seeing centipede, use image to control your winter broadleafs and leave the winter grassy weeds which will go dormant or dye off when the heat of the summer starts. If you can identify the (grass) you are seeing right now as something other than centipede you can go ahead and spot spray with round-up.
Plan now for your summer grassy and broadleaf weeds by applying proper pre emergent. This will prevent your annual grasses from germinating and you can spot spray your summer perennials when the time comes.
I hope this helps and hasn't confused you more than helped. There are also other products than can be used other than Image. I just used it because it is so easy to get.
