Rate your season

Postby wing shot » Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:14 am

I didn't go but 9 times, but it was very, very good. From everything Ive heard and seen 1st hand, probably one of the best migrations in last 15 to 20 years. We finally had the perfect combo of extremely cold weather and pleanty of water.

Overall it pretty much sucked. We did manage 2 really good hunts in the delta but around home I would give it a very low score. We got skunked more this year than I can ever remember.

I would have to give it a 7 or maybe even an 8.
It started ut with a bunch of early season Mallards, got slow for a week or so, then blazed all the way to the end. Last Saturday was the hunt of the year for me. I was so ready for it to end that I didn't even go to the Delta this weekend. I stayed around here and drank too much. Gotta get everything dry and put away now, do all the chores that my wife has been griping about going undone for 2 months, and get ready to chase after those Turkeys. Come on Spring!!!

A perfect 10, best season most of the Delta has seen since the early 90's. It does not get any better than this year was. You can't expect anything better.

I went 5 times. Once out on the might Pearl and missed the only woodduck I had a good shot at. Then to Mahannah and Muscadine where I got the big fat zero, but learned a lot on my first draw hunt experience, then went on 2 guest hunts, which I had a great time on.. Didn't kill a limit but it was a great hunt nonetheless. I rate my season a solid 8 due to the gained knowledge and 2 good hunts to close the season.

I'd give the season a 7.

Hunting costal marshes after two hurricanes has proven to be very futile for me over the years. So I didn't expect much, however this year was very different. We opened the season and didn't kill less than 18 birds in a hunt unitl 2009. In fact the season started off so good, I was inviting freinds from far off places to come hunt it was "can't miss". Then the misses started and for most of the season from Jan3 until it ended Jan 18, it was hit or miss with the best hunts producing 18 birds.

If not for the poor finish the season would have been a 10, without the hurricanes I would have given it a 5, however with the storms mixed in I'll split the differenct and give it a 7.

Probly 1 of the worst season's my group has had in many yrs, hunted about 15 time's and we managed 179 we useally kill 400-500 in the same amount of trip's.Have 2 places in Tally in prime location and a place in the hill's (Calhoun Co.)the hill spot produced limit's of mallard's only on 3 or 4 hunt's 3 to 6 hunter's while the delta kinda sucked except for saterday.1 of our spot's in Tally is a club that harvest 2000 -3000 bird's a season have'nt got final number's but I think they are going to be way off this yr.

my personal best - I hunted about 25 days out of the 60 and killed birds just about every time - my son was at my side most of the time and I enjoyed that the most - he killed his first limit, his first teal, his first pintail, and his first goose this year. What a GREAT YEAR!!!!

Rating:(9.5) I only went 5 times, but we got are mallard limits all three times, but never finished out the limit with small ducks.
