Well, I am standing with the ducks. Whether DU is your cup of tea or not, there is something everyone can do toward conservation of this precious resource. If you do not own your own hunting land(do your own conservation projects), then the only other alternatives are donating money to organizations such as DU, DW, etc.
In my personal opinion, I think it is silly that DU and other orgs have to put on the dog and pony shows (ie banquets, etc.) just to raise the needed money for conservation projects. But, after several years of working with such orgs to raise money, people are not inclined to give money if there is not something directly in it for them. Just the nature of most folks, I guess.

Wingman, I worked on the local committee for years until it got too fancy and large for me. I quit going to the banquet when it got away from what I thought was right. Then I dropped my membership for five years because I didn't think DU supported the hunters who are a huge part of the success of DU. When they changed their tune to publicly support hunting, I joined again...still don't go to the banquet, though. If we didn't join or support organizations financially because there are people in them who do wrong things, there wouldn't be many places in business, including our churches! I support the mission of DU, not the behavior of its members, just as I support my church financially because I belive in its mission, even though I don't condone the behavior of all its members. I guess each of us has to come to a decision of the ethics of membership. Does my membership in DU mean that I condone the drinking and lewdness of what goes on at some of its functions? Not to me.

I used to belong to DU & Delta. When DU publicly said they weren't a duck hunting organzation, I quit and sent Delta 10 times as much. DU is about habitat, and thats fine. I'm about duck hunting, and will spend my time and money with organztions that belive in my right to hunt. DU publicly attacked Delta's research, and at that time I went from being non-du, to anti-du. Most of the biologists that the USFWS employs, and DU employs, where trained and did research with delta. Funny how so many of them have had about faces in what they belived when it didn't fit what their employers wanted. The amount of habitat DU has actually saved is miniscule, compared to what they claim. You build a duck marsh, they supply a culvert or 2, bingo, they just saved 1000 acres. They supply dirt work for a corp project, they put up a sign and claim the acreage for themselves. It's almost fraud, and it certainly is funny duck hunters buy into a non hunting organization lock stock and barrel. Are they bad for the ducks? No. But do they do measurable good for the ducks, not for the money spent they don't. Before you try to 'prove' to me how much good they do, ask yourself why your dollars bought 'duck' habitat in the bahamas... travis

There are a good many waterfowl biologist that have spent some time at Delta. Most biologist? I don't think so.
DU's strong point is in its lobbying powers.
