Scopechief by Bushnell scope?

Postby marshman » Tue Jan 20, 2009 9:16 pm

Got a co-worker that got one of these at Christmas and has no need for it. Its a 3x9x40. He said he'd sell it to me for $35.00. I checked them at academy and they sell for around $60.00. i'm always looking for a bargain but my question is are they worth it? I have an extra muzzleloader that has iron sights on it and will put it on it if i decide to buy it. The scope is still in the package and has never been opened. Is this a good deal? Anyone know anything about it?

Here is a review I found by typing into google: "Scopechief by Bushnell review"

"The Bushnell Scopechief 3x9x32 is one of the cheapest scopes on the market. Coming in at about $49.99. I love the fast focus eyepiece. This thing makes finding your target on the fly easy as pie. If you only have about $50 to buy a scope this is certainly reasonable. You will enjoy optics that are better than the $50 price tag. I debated on whether to give this scope 5 stars or not... I decided that I would rate the scope against all scopes that I have used side by side and not consider the price.

I feel that the scope has a bit of travel related to recoil, it is only marginally acceptable for dusk and dawn hunting. Adjusting the scope is anything but a 1/4 MOA turn of the dial. The adjustments are not precise, yet doable with a bit of patience. It's optics, while better then expected for a $50 scope, lacks the clarity of the Nikon Prostaff, which has been reviewed earlier and is a much better choice if you can spare $150. But, if you are on a tight budget... don't be scared. The scope is certainly within a tolerable range for hunting and close (within 100 yards) target shooting. I haven't tried the scope out further so I wont comment on it's distance abilities here."

I bought a Scopechief 3x9x40 new in 1985 - used it on a 30-06 auto until 1996. Then put on a 7mm mag bolt action. Used the scope on the 7mm mag up until last year when I ran across someone who wanted the gun and scope set up more than I did. Never had one bit of problem out of scope keeping zero. Scope never fogged. Scope was very clear for the money spent.

My father put one on a 30-06 in 1992 and still uses it today. No problems. Again, good optics for the money.

Will it out perform other much higher priced brands at dusk and dawn? probably not, but I could not tell the difference in other scopes that cost 2 times as much.

If I needed a value priced scope today, I would buy another one.

Thanks. That sounds good enough for me. Espeically for what I'll use it for.
