My dad showed it to me...used to use it back in the 70's at our camp when early morning timber huntin. Several old guys back then swore it was an old Arkansas trick....
If you get the pitch just right it sounds just like one...
He's comin' back around...

I got a primos and took it apart and moved the o ring it sounds much better but your still not going to call em in and work em like a mallard. However I do think it gets em in a little closer for a better shot sometimes.

Wiley Fextone can "whine" them up after they land wide sometimes when stuff's slow. Like someone said... Three, four...weeps, weeps, weeps...can get'em to swim up especially when they start answering... Got an old Olt that has a brass slide bar on the reed to make the thing squeal...don't carry it though but it looks ingenious.

Button willow thicket, about 20 mins after legal shooting, worked best for me.

Enjoy.

My .02s, my primos call is a good call, very loud but often the reed sticks. The Duck Commander call is a good call, just takes a lot of air to work it. I also have a Brays call out of ruleville and it is the most realistic sounding call I have run across, it sounds just like the call a wood duck makes while sitting on the water (to-weeet). It will bring them swimming on in. And my experience is that you can call a wood duck but not 'work' a wood duck.

wood ducks seem to like that whistle you get from local wal-mart. just hit the high pitch when they fly by and they will be in the decoys before you can count to 3.

I like the way the Duck Commander one sounds,buutttt......like others have said, they have a mind of there own. I have turned them with both mallard and gadwall calls, but usually, they do as they please anyway..

Yea wood ducks are like cats and mallards are like dogs............But I think the real question here is....what brand of shotgun is best to shot them with........Benelli or beretta????? Because we all know you cant call'em, those cats do what they want.

I will second the nomination for the Bays call made in Ruleville, MS. It is a harmonica style call with a rubber reed. Its unique, lightweight, easy to use, and very realistic sounding. I received one of these calls as a Christmas gift this year, and understand the price to be about $7. I have already used it and have successfully turned some wood ducks to circle back into the hole for close passing shots.

And if the ducks aren't flying, you can hammer out some blues tunes. I have mine tuned to the key of B flat.
