Tell your friend he definitely needs to hire a lawyer that practices in the area where he is getting divorced. There is a lot of "home cooking" when you have a local lawyer on one side and a lawyer on the other side who is from somewhere else. Not sure where your friend is from, but I would highly recommend Putt Crull. He pretty much specializes in divorce and is very good at it. I know Rusty Harlow as well. He is good too, but I would chose Putt if I had to choose between the two.

Nothing wrong with being paid in full. It only took getting stiffed once to learn that lesson.

Isn't there a way to report an attorney to the bar is they are not giving you representation if you have retained them. I'm not talking about whether or not the representation is worth a damn or not but if they are not even responding and motions are going unfiled and such.
