Our permitted blind on ACOE land was demolished by a group of young punks who decided to make their four wheeler trail right thru the middle of it, and if that is not enough they decided to make the beaver dam that was holding all the water in their ramp. Lost all the water.

Hope I catch up with them they will lose part of their booty....

just curious doc..... define permitted on acoe land..... like is it just ya's blind? if you get there and im in it or beside it do you have the right and paperwork by law to tell me to get out or are u just gonna get mad over it cause there is really not ya can do?

The ACOE issues permits to people who want to put a blind on Coe Prop for the season. They can be put in Nov. 1 and have to be out by April 1. The permited area is yours, and proctects the area within 500 ft in any direction. If the permit holder(s) are not in the blind by sunrise then it is free game, I can't run you out but I can still hunt there.

Permits are cheap 5.00 and anyone can get one. They typically issue close to 50 for the Arkabutla impoundment. To get one you have to be at their office and have the location of where you are going to put you blind. They will mark you blind on a map and that is pretty much all it takes. After that they will not let anyone have a permit wanting to set up with in 500 ft of your blind. However you always have people who do not know/obide by the established rules and will set up right on top of you. IN the past we typically just talk to them and tell them what they are doing wrong and they will go else were. Only once have we had a problem with someone (group of young punks from Memphis)encroching and they ended up getting several tickets from the GW and the park Ranger. Most of the time there are no problems and we have been hunting this particular area for over 8 yrs. This instance is by far the worse problem we have ever had.

Look at it this way, with the new rules starting in March, you won't have to worry about taking it out since they destroyed it for you.

Beginning 1 March 2009, new regulations will take effect regarding the use of duck blinds and deer stands on Arkabutla Lake, Sardis Lake, Enid Lake and Grenada Lake.

Effective 1 March 2009, duck blind permits will no longer be issued for project lands and waters. Additionally, deer stands will no longer be allowed to be left overnight on Government Property. Under the new policies, only temporary/portable blinds and stands will be permitted. Once placed, all temporary/portable blinds and stands must be occupied to be in compliance. The use of nails, screws, or spikes for the purpose of attaching temporary/portable devices to trees is strictly prohibited. Fixed tower stands and shooting houses are also prohibited. Blinds, stands, and associated equipment (decoys, camouflage, climbing devices, steps, etc.) must be removed from project lands on a daily basis. Blinds, deer stands, or structures that are found in violation of this policy shall be considered an unauthorized structure and will be subject to summary removal or impoundment by project personnel.

Past practices associated with both the Duck Blind Permit and Deer Stand policies led many users to the mistaken conclusion that a given area of public property was reserved through the placement of their devices. This was never the intent of these policies. The new policies being instituted will provide an equal opportunity to all project users and they will also provide a safer environment for the visiting public. Actually, it only stopped people from being able to build another blind within 500' of you. If a person wanted to, they could set up 10 yards away from your blind. The ONLY thing it protected was that 500' radius from having another permitted blind constructed within it.
If it "locked up" that area from any encroachment, a person could go in, pull a few permits and lock an entire area up. This misconception is the exact reason they are discontinuing the blind permit program mentioned in a previous post.

I don't think the permit is the issue here. These guys are going on to public land and tearing it up mud riding. I have seen what was done around this blind and it was not necessary. If this continues we will lose the privlidge to use atvs on this land if not loose the right to be there all together.

Dutch is right, the permit only secures the area from another blind being set up with in 500 ft. I did not clarify that well enough, but that is what I ment.

This was only pertaining to the placement of permanent duck blinds.

Yea, I agree with ya'll 100% about the punks mud riding. There is only 2 places left that I can think of where you can actually still ride a 4wheeler in to hunt, and from the sounds of things it won't be long before it's all taken away from us because of people like this.

Btw, I just posted the info about the blinds because it is a new rule starting in March that has not been put out well enough to reach all of the general public.

I just wanted to let Doc know what he had to look forward to next year.
