Boat advice, my boat has had it, almost sank today, time for a new one. I want to take the short shaft 40 off of it and put it on a new welded aluminum. Any suggestions on brand and lenght that will handle a 40, the cheaper, or shall i say the least expensive high quality the better.
Some buddies of mine have a 1650 express with a short transom for short shaft motors. They currently have a Merc sea pro 30 on it. It has an avery blind on it, a trolling motor, gun box 2 batteries...all fixed up. anyway they will take around $4000 for the whole setup. Your motor will work just fine on it and you can sell that sea pro motor for $2000 to $2500. The motor is electric start also. The boat is a 98 model and the trailer is a 99 model...not sure about the motors year model, but it's one of the 2...judging by the year models I would say the boat was purchased new around the end of 98.
check out http://www.godevil.com and click on their seamless all-weld boats...they are some kind of sharp...

Grizzly Tracker 16 ft, semi V hull .100 all welded hull. I got a 14ft one and wish I had the 16. Good boat I use a 40 hp mariner long shank with a minn-kota power up trim. The trim unit will pay for itself in a year just on gas. Good luck too ya!!!!

Hey Mississipi duck hunter, I got a price of $1650 for a grizzly 1648. Thats just the hull. Like you said, all welded and .100 thick hull. I am very curiouse about your 14ft boat holding your 40hp. I would almost like to split the difference and get a 15footer but the HP rating on it is a 25 I think. Bet your 14 footer with a 40hp will fly. Does the boat ride low in the back with the 40 on it and is it so fast that its dangerouse?

I went with the Tracker Grizzly and it is awsome. It was only 2k for a 1648 with a mudbuddy blind. It will handle your 40hp with ease. I got it from the bass pro shop in Nashville but you should be able to find one locally in the same price range

Bates the 25 hp rating is for a tiller handle my is rated up to a 50 with a steering console which is what I have. I havent had any problems with mine as far as low riding or anything. If you do put the minn- kota unit on there you will have too raise the motor on the mount some if you use a steering console.
