Browning A5

Any one use this gun for ducks? Any one dislike it? let me know your opions. It is an old one, i am not sure where it was made.thanks

Hey dude, I don't know squat about a Browning, other than the B.A.R. helped win WW2, but I wuz wondrin' if you were gonna check out the Audio Adrenaline concert Tuesday night? 7PM, Smith Wills Stadium, no admission.

I want to, but until you said where it was i did not have a clue as to time or place, cause i have only seen the bill boards for it and they dont have that info. i will prob go cause i love those guys.

Only thing I have heard is on Star 93 Wednesday before last on the way back from Mobile. I am gonna call Monday to make sure it is still on. Maybe we can meet somewhere before the concert. I think a bunch of the youth in my church are coming down with me, so we'll probably have a good crowd. My favorite.."We're A Band".

those ole humpbacks are some great guns but you got to enjoy heavy recoil.... only guns made after 1976 are steel shot friendly.. those made prior are not reccommended... heavi-shot and some of the others are safe for the barrel...

You still see a lot of A5's out in the marshes. Look at the first two (the two best ones) Duck Commander videos and Robertson is shooting a 16 guage A5.
I would be carefull about shooting steel through it if it has a full choke.

It is interesting that Robertson remarks about shooting steel in the second video, but in the opening sequence you see closeups of bismuth boxes.

Let me see, I started teaching school in the fall of 1970 (my first full time job). I thought that I was rolling in money! That year I bought my first new car and a new shotgun (Browning A5). It has a 30" full and a vent rib, also a 3". Later I bought a second barrel (it was a 26" with invector chokes, made in Japan). In over 30 years I have not shot that gun 25 times! It looks like it just came out of the box! Great gun, but did not want to take it to the marsh. The marsh is a hard life for a gun. Jack

PS. Do any of you have a child that is a duck hunting fanatic? I might will them my gun. I have no children and no one else in my family hunts. [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

laduck, my daddy has a child that is a duck hunting fanatic, and I also have a 18 month old son who is destined to become one. If you need a beneficiary in your will of the A5 either of us are qualified.

Wife gave me a Belgium A-5 magnum for our 5th wedding anniversary.....that was 18 years ago. It was 'as new' when she found it. 'Quit using it 3 years ago because I was afraid it would get too beat-up in the boat and didn't really want to drill it for sling swivels. 'Had to really 'pamper' that thing, so I bought another gun that I could 'abuse'.

The A-5 is a good waterfowling piece IMO, having some useful features like the magazine cut-off, especially if you jump-shoot ducks out of a canoe. [img]images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

I just chose to retire mine....just have this thing about 'hard to replace' guns....I'll use'em but am careful what I subject them to.....and if you hunt much in a boat, you know what can happen to them. [img]images/smiles/icon_eek.gif[/img]

I'm looking forward to using mine again, in the rice field, this year. 'Has a 28" 'fixed' modified choke......oughta be just right! [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

I have a Belgium A-5 - made in the 1940's. Of course, no steel shot is coming out of it. I do use it for dove hunting. It was my grandfathers who is no longer with us, so it means alot to me. Don't think I would ever take it out in the blind.

I have a Browning Belgium made A-5 that my father handed down to me. I used to love shooting it until I started duck hunting. Since I had to shoot steel shot, I couldn't use my A-5. I put it up because I was shooting over all of my ducks after using my A-5 for dove hunting. I couldn't adjust to shooting both the humpback and my citori. So, I just started shooting my citori for doves too. I will never sell my A-5 and will hand it down if I ever have a son. It is a good gun.

GOOD GUN BUT JAMS EASILY W/ ANY DIRT/DEBRIS IN IT. I USED ONE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS.
LIKES TO FREEZE TOO.
GET A 1187, CHEAPLY PRICED AND A GOOD GUN.
