question about trailer brakes. help!!!

Postby ScottyLee » Mon Dec 08, 2008 8:15 am

Dad wants this thing for his truck for Christmas. I have no idea what they're called, much less where to get them, or how much they cost. Do any of you guys have or use these things? Is this a do it yourself project or does a "pro" need to install them? any feedback is greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.

You can buy them at any of the parts houses, but I don't know how much they cost anymore. It is something that an average common sense kindof guy can do.

Depends on what kind of truck he has. If he has a newer model truck with a tow package, there is a jump wire that came with the truck. Just plug the jump wire into the truck and connect the wires to the Trailer brake via the instructions that come with the trailer brake. I had an 06 Chevy and it was easy enough to do..

Electric Brake Controller.

Some are very simple and cheap to buy and others are high tech and expensive to buy. As wink said, depending on the year of the truck, it may have a plug under the dash to plug a pigtail in. Once plugged in, it gives you bare wires to hook up the brake controller too. All the rest of the wire are pre-installed. There may be a fuse or two to install in the fuse box too, depending on the model truck.
