Dog Platform Question
Dog Platform Question
I was hunting this morning and on my dogs 2nd retreive he was getting up on the Avery walk in platform. The dead gum thing broke in two. He had to stayin neck high water till we left. I was wondering what everybody recommends and where do you get another one. Cabelas macks ornobody make one anymore. I'm not sure i want to spend 115 buck on another avery platform. Any help would be good.thanks.
Re: Dog Platform Question
make you one with the bottom to a climber. works great
Deer, ducks, and turkeys.
Re: Dog Platform Question
I went the cheap route and built my own out of plywood and 2x4's. I also put a GHG dog blind ontop of it. You can also use the top half of a Pet Porter.

Re: Dog Platform Question
Make on or get a cheap lock on stand or climber bottom.
What about calling Avery for a replacement? Sounds like it would qualify as normal use. They take forever but usually replace stuff when it screws up.

Re: Dog Platform Question
The best thing I've found is the bottom of an Ol' Man climber with an astro turf type door mat zip tied over the mesh grating. At one time I welded tree stands for a local fabricator and made one of my own design. It's a little fancier than the treestand bottom but nice.

Re: Dog Platform Question
the bottom of a ol man works great if there are trees to put it on.. i hunt alot of buck brush and they dont work to well tryin to stabilize it on some buck brush.. i just had to break down and buy a freakin avery ruff stand..
Re: Dog Platform Question
Another vote for the bottom of an Ole man. I sat beside my dog Sun morning on it!! Be sure to zip tie some carpet to the platform so they don't get their toes caught in the grid.

Re: Dog Platform Question
You can get a lock on purty cheap in sportsman's guide or somethin like that and take the seat off.. Works well even on swelled trees because you can use a rachet strap to secure it to the tree. +1 on the carpet to keep their pads out of the expanded metal on the platform.

Re: Dog Platform Question
An ol man stand works great, if you are like me and travel on 4wheeler its folds and fits prefect on the front rack with plenty of room for more gear. Also, pending on where you are, you can use the top with a piece of cover to hide your dog. I'm still looking for some heavy duty foam to float his ass! couple pvc poles, bam! magic!....If the water is like knee deep or so, I use a fold out chair, like the ones you tailgate with. works pretty good. At least dog gets a little dryer, and well I like to my buddy happy, because he sure makes me happy.

Use some type of strap along with the cable on it to get extra length.

Re: Dog Platform Question
Well Scoe, being that your dog weighs 125lbs you need to check the maximum weight capacity on your avery stand before they send you another one. I think the Ol Man bottoms have a 250lb weight limit so you should be good with that!
