Being one of the "oos'ers" (kinda), I can't tell you how many folks I run into here in GA who are regular lurkers on this site and others. It is the primary way they decide where to hunt on their annual trips to MS. I was very naive back when this site first started up, and I have seen the effect of my giving someone here a "tip" about a spot I used to hunt on public land. My boss asked me to help his nephew who was taking his first duck trip to MS. I gave him a spot in Delta Nat'l that I had found and pretty much had it to myself. He took three of his friends with him, then they took friends, and now you can't go to that spot anytime during the season and not find a GA hunter there. I bet 100 people know about it, because they tell me about it; heck, the state director of DU, gave me the place as a "tip" for when I got back home. Talk about full circle.

I do think that it has an effect on the pressure on public places; and ,once upon a time, I didn't mind helping folks out...and sometimes will now if I have a relationship with someone and know I can trust them. But, cyber scouting is a big deal here in GA, and you can count on the fact that there are many looking to decide where they will hunt at any given time.

It is much more difficult these days to be a good guy and help a new hunter out, it sure takes more discretion on who it is. The internet is indiscriminate when it comes to who gets and uses the information.

Most of the posts about places and numbers in nothing more than a fella needing a way to crow about what a "hardcore" duck killer he is. Well, thats the way I used to be anyway. There are PM's if you want to give a specific person a hint.

I have to say that, over a pretty long period of experience (40+ yrs), hunting pressure is increased with a posting over the internet. Take it for what it's worth to you.

Would you tell everybody that at 12 there's a grand under that tree...or would you just be quiet and come to the tree everyday at 12?

and crow hit the nail on the head, if you tell one guy a tip on a spot and he never tells anybody else or doesnt go there except with you and his son/daughter thats a different story, but it hardly happens that way they will take their buddies from work and then they will bring there golfing buddies and the next thing you know you got just about every public land hunter craming into your 5 acre duck hole so thats why it is not looked kindly upon when you start blabbing off on this site about where the ducks are because you may not be the only one in that hole there may be someone just a few hundred yards down that scouted this hole and may only have a few days a week to hunt it so the next time he gets there theres 20 different hunters set up on him

either you're trying to fan a flame and get some blood pressure up .... or you really haven't read a lot of posts in your 37? postings - this discussion is started EVERY year by newbies/topwaters (usually in their first few postings) who get their feelings hurt that noone here will cooperate with their wants and tell them where they need to go to kill a duck, instead of trying to figure it out on their own.
you'll figure out soon, as others have, that YOUR spot won't be YOUR spot long after you post any pertinent info on location of success & you can't whine about it b/c YOU gave it up.

Im a newbie and ooser but I agree a hundred percent with the locals..Ive hunted the delta for several years now and I make the drive and I put in my time and I find my own spots. You cant expect handouts, you have to do stuff on your on. Its also alot more rewarding when you put in the time and scout and know that your the one who found those ducks and youarent just riding someone elses coat tail. So from an ooser do your homework and try not to make us look so bad....

I think its funny that we all probably get pissed at our wives for having so much drama in their lives but our favorite past time seems to be nothing but just that. Hunting is becoming a soap opera of money, family feuds, law suits and squabbles over who's saying what. And that is esp true with duck hunting.

Put your time in and keep your spot as secret as you want. Everyone needs to woo-sa a little bit tho.

I have a private hole I have had permission to hunt for the last few years,I have taken several friends along with me. the other day I had one of them ask me:

"WHO OWNS THAT LAND SO I CAN CALL THEM AND GET PERMISSION TO HUNT IN THERE WHEN YOUR NOT ABLE TO GO?"

moral of the story:

"IF YOU FIND A HOLE WORTH HUNTING KEEP IT TO YOURSELF"

no matter public or private someone is always looking for a free ride
Thanks

Many guys here have scouted for many seasons to fine tune spots in many locations. Much effort has gone into scouting for these holes.

All of a sudden, a guy from Alabama catches wind of a hot spot in Mississippi because of a sight like this. He and 4 buddies load up in a rig pulling a camper and camp on the boat ramp. So now your competition goes from locals to guys from all over. This morning at the boat ramp, I saw 4 trucks, not one plate was a mississippi plate. Alabama, Tennessee, Florida and ark.

To much time and effort is put into these spots to be blown wide open on the internet.

My two cents

could not have said it better myself
redneckduck if it doesnt matter to you display some of your hotspots and see how long they remain "your" hotspots, basically there are alot of people who get on these sites and will not register but "lurk" and wait for someone to slip up and say where they saw a good bit of ducks and the next morning it will be like the daytona 500 getting in there

+1 this is what happened at Panther------all the Alabama boys sleep in their trucks
Boys, "I DONT KILL THESE DUCKS BECAUSE I LIKE TOO, I KILL THESE DUCK BECAUSE I HAVE TOO", you figure out the difference!
