Duck Reports

Postby The Duke » Thu Nov 27, 2008 11:30 am

I got a call two weeks ago that delta was full of ducks, went to camp yesterday and saw nothing. I heard of six different groups limit out in Arkansas, and not much action in Louisiana. Anyone got ducks in delta anywhere, or around Greenwood?

Geese have always taken over the fields in that area.

From my travels recently through delta- Snows have be working fields between Moorhead,Sunflower up through Quiver River Area. Then saw more past few days around Parchman, north Drew area. Haven't seen many ducks in the sky between Tunica,Clarksdale,Cleveland,Shaw to Indianola. Ducks I have seen in numbers have been along the Tennesse line up around Walls in Desoto Co. I have a duck lease around Boyle/Shaw area that i have been driving through every 3 days and I still haven't seen a duck in the sky.
I go up Money road fairly often and haven't seen any numbers in the air,but I haven't ridden over through the Scatters to Hwy 7. I travel most days from Hwy 82 north of Greenwood and am not seeing anything flying to and fro. Most times I am traveling back roads and don't see them yet other than numbers mentioned along Tennesse line.

Limited out 3 days in a row back home in TN 6-7 man limit. I talked to my dad this morning and they had a 4 man limit by 8:30. 120 plus in 4 days. Maybe they will be here soon.

Saw good numbers in the North Delta...numbers of kills from others not that impressive compared to Arkie. Lots of Mallards would work initially, but were as picky as late season ducks. Missed the opener on Thursday...maybe that is part of it.

I say it every year, until the Delta naturally floods, it is hard to sustain the large numbers since most holes with water have guns in it. They'll seek refuge and won't budge. Unfortunately, we won't have the closed week this week for them to seek our holes since many of the local hunters will keep pressure on them.

At least we've got the weather in our favor...snowed 1/2" this am here in Corinth.

I got little water up in the delta, broke pump and bureaucracy of grown men whining like women is keeping me from fixing it.

Mahanna and Howard Miller have quite a few ducks on them. Anyone going there should do good This morning at HM there were 25 hunters that killed 125 ducks and 13 geese! Not bad! Been quite a few ducks in the bigger open areas that have feed and water
