Boat ramp

Postby GreenheadJim » Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:34 pm

A buddy of mine just called me from some public land around Greenwood and sait that there were 25 boats at the ramp at noon. They are all camping out, waiting on tomorrow. They be in for a long wait. As for me, this will be the first opening day I have missed in 10 years. I'm not waiting that long for nothing.

That place is crazy that's for sure. I remember whedn we used to hunt there. You could get there at 5 and have plenty of place. Now if you don't get there at 5 Am the previous morning, you won't find a spot and not many MS tags there either

I don't think that I have ever wanted to kill a duck so bad that it means I have to spend the night in my boat. And the bad thing is some topwater will roll in about 5:45 and setup 25 yards away and all the time spent camping out will be wasted.
Everything is illegal now, except for the stuff that's mandatory.

I just quit going. You can kill birds but the anger ruins the whole trip. I found other places. Maybe they will change it to a draw next year and cut out all the craziness

I started hunting Malmaison in the 1970's and we could get to the ramp about 9 AM and be the only vehicle there. Once saw a pickup sit at the ramp all day with the door open and a Browning A-5 hanging in the gun rack.
Now I'm one of the dreaded OOS'ers and don't want to fight the crowd. We did have some great hunts in the old days. Used to hunt with the GW and the Area Manager :)

It would be pointless to go to malmaison when you can't get in the water before 5am

They said the gamewardens let them leave at 11:45. By 1:00 every hole was covered. I thought about throwing out about 3 dekes and sitting in a chair at the boat ramp.
