So why are you here on this forum. What are you after...

Postby MSDuckmen » Fri Nov 07, 2003 1:36 pm

What is interesting to me about this site is how people get to know each other through conversations, debates, and Private messages and then can sit back and make character judgments on others post just from what they read on these here forums.

Some of us have never met and other have met several times and I have yet to meet a person I didn’t like. Maybe liked some better than the other but for the most part I like them all too some degree.

I read about things some do, others their beliefs, and some post even about their families and you can gain some little glimpse of how that person is but you never really know that person without sitting down and having several long talks with them on any number of subjects and then you only know what they want you too.

I have been belittled, called, cussed, and even had those I consider friends dog me about any number of different subjects I may have posted about in the past and what they see in me is that single post and nothing more.

Many things on this forum and others I don’t agree with. That is my right. But when individuals look at post made and decides the Character of the person from a few written words it just goes to show me how PC we have become in our country today.

I will bite at what I don’t agree with but make no bones in that I don’t judge the person only the statement. Just because I don’t agree with you does not mean that I don’t like you or hold you with low esteem.. I have many more problems with my on short falls to worry about judging another person.

I stay on this board here only because there are several people here that I respect. Some I have never met. For the most part we are all Mississippi hunters and we have a common interest.

I will tell each and every one of you at this point in my life I want nothing from any of you but friendship. There is no hidden agenda. I don’t come here strictly for entertainment but for the fellowship we have. Some of you will not understand that.
But some of you will…..

Interesting questions.

"So why are you here on this forum?"

Because of my love for waterfowl hunting.

"What are you after?"

Nothing. I came with no expectations. Still don't have any.

I've already received more than I came for. Thanks to all.

One of the basic truths of humanity is that we all like to be right... at least, sometimes! No matter how much you like or agree with folks, when this many people congregate in person or on the internet, there will be disputes of who is right! The worst fight I ever had was when I was in high school and with my best friend because I was holding the liquor bottle and he wanted it....a knock down drag out fight over who had control over the bottle. Granted, that fight was lubricated with bourbon, but it still points out the ingrained necessity to be in control (be right). Those of us who post a good bit are obviously not a bit shy about telling others what we think, and we are not very shy about telling each other when we think you are wrong...you have to be wrong because I am right!

I think these sites are great because I can tell you that you are full of stuff and you are not close enough to hit me! By the time you could get to GA, you would probably cool down enough and I would be regretful enough to buy each other a cold drank and laugh about it.

Let's take these sites for what they are...a place to read and converse (including disagreements) with others about things we care about. Let's don't give them more weight than they deserve...I don't believe anyone will cure cancer or end war on a website!

Peace out, brothers!

Dan - I think that we are all here for basically the same reason and you did a good job summing it up. We have disagreed in the past but I think both of us enjoyed it ;). Strong personalities tend to disagree on just about everything. I read more into your posts than some. I can tell that you are 110% fanatical about conservation and duck hunting and there aint nothing wrong with that. I have gotten pissed and claimed that I wouldn't share a blind with folks I disagreed with....but I would share a blind with you any day. Good luck this season.

why am i here? several years ago i hated ducks, and i tried to kill as many as the law would allow..... and this forum give me clues as to where i would head out each morning.... whether it be local or away i was headed out.... and i killed a bunch of ducks......nuff said......

then in the drought of 2000 i purchased some lowland and built the Quack-Shack..... i have read your post that some deem as controversial and i did not get involved because i felt the both of us shared a common interest in conservation.....some folks don'y understand that..... i don't hate ducks like i use too, i find myself more wanting to attract them season after season and provide a place for them to return.....{ i guess i like to let them head on south so some of you can get a shot or two...haha...} i guess the bottom line is that i like to grill out and enjoy friends and watch the ducks....i like to let the guest have the good shots... but don't think the judge won't make a skillet shot or two.... life for me is slower and good......

Isn't something that all this could come about from the mere fact that we all are compelled to go hunting???? It is the comraderie, the partial knowledge shared , and the compelling desire to keep thinking about the ducks that keeps me coming back.
