Opening Day in Missouri

Postby Greenhead31 » Sat Nov 01, 2003 4:26 pm

Well, today was openind day for duck season. We were still holdin ducks, but some "turd-cutter" kept driving around the field roads so they were flaring pretty bad. :x That guy better hope we don't find out who he is. We did see a lot of ducks, but only managed to kill 8. There were 4 of us hunting. We had 2 mallard hens, 1 drake, 1 BW Teal, and 4 shovelors. Not an awesome opening day but it's warmer than it has been. high's were in the 80's today. Suppose to be in the low 70's and cloudy tomorrow so hopefully it's better.

At least it was opening day, you were hunting, and you killed some birds. It could have been worse, like me, I was working. Good luck the rest of the season. C'mon opening morning in Ms..........I can hardly wait.

We had an awesome opening weekend. Sat. had 12 mallards 2 pintails 3 teal. Sunday had 24 mallards 5 pintails 3 teal 1 widgeon and 1 snow goose. They had a lot of ducks and had a hard time getting scrap ducks. I might go back next weekend. I rode 50 mile radius Sat afternoon of where we were hunting and saw very little water. The farmers are about a month and a half behind us with their crops and a few fields were flooded. If you have water you will kill ducks.

Well heck. I live in Dexter. It's about 30 miles east of Sikeston. Our blind is about 7 or 8 miles southwest of Dexter. We sit right north of Otter Slough Conservation Area and Mingo NWR is about 15 miles to our north. Low's Saturday mornin are suppose to be in the upper 20's to low 30's. With the snow they've been gettin in northern Iowa and Minnesotta, this weekend may be good!

I went to Dexter Saturday to Bootheel buggies and drove a new Yamaha Rhino they are bad ass. Do you know where Vanduser (sp) and Bell City are? We hunt directly between the two. I am trying to talk my better half in letting me come back this weekend. I think the weather is going to cooperate this weekend and should be a grand slam.

I knew there were rice fields around Bell City and Vanduser, but I didn't know if they held ducks or not. I guess they do!! haha Cold front came through this morning and I didn't get to hunt but my dad did and it was in the low 50's w/ a light drizzle and he killed his 6 duck limit in about 45 minutes he said. He said he wished I woulda gone w/ him. I wish I would have now!

Greenhead I just got off the phone with my guys in MO. 7 hunters limited out this morning by 7:20. He said new ducks pouring in. I'm so excited i can't wait to get there Friday. He said when they left the field it was about 750 to 1000 ducks with more coming in.
