Tech gurus

Postby LODI QUACKER » Sun Nov 16, 2008 10:28 am

Is virus software really a nessecity? I took norton off my system because it seems to suck and cause more problems with its always scanning and fixing. I have 3 years of NOrton so I can put it bak on. But do you Have to have one, if so what is the best that causes the least problems? Does the Windows stuff keep stufff out or can you use the internet with caution without one?

Thanks.

Download AVG for Virus Protection and Ad Aware for SpyWare. They're both free and they are pretty good. This is what Computer Universe puts on the computers in Tupelo when they are reformatted.

+1, also it try downloading yahoo toolbar, as it has an anti spy software and it works really well. It surprised me but my brother in law is an IT guy for a big firm in Birmingham and this is what he recommended to me, and its worked pretty good so far.

Get a Mac. You won't need anti-virus software. It's like having sex without a condom.

Stay off the porn sites and don't open every email you get - especially from folks you don't know and you won't get any viruses.

We use Avast antivirus. It and the AVG run really well(not at the same time, one or the other) you definitely want an antivirus and both of these are the same price. FREE Working in a computer shop, I have seen computers with almost every kind of antivirus and all of them can get viruses. Its like the guy posted above

I am not accusing you of that but what I am saying watch where you go and what emails you open. One other tidbit. Download Windows Defender. We have been fighting a virus called Antivirus 2008/2009 or xp/vista antivirus. It is a fake antivirus that runs under several names and a pain to get off the computer without reloading. The windows defender seems to help but we are still testing that. Run it in conjunction with AVG or Avast. Norton wont allow it to run but what will it allow to run. I HATE NORTON. lol

2nd that, its usually what i put on anyone's PC i work on if they don't have pay sw. AVG is actually rated in the top 5 pay/free AV sw's out there and it has found viruses for me that others failed to detect.

What the heck else is there to do with a computer

Adware and Spybot are free...they perform descent. Work uses Symantic on the company laptops, and, yes...Norton SUX

Spybot also works on the Antivirus 2008/2009 trojan. You still have to go through the registry and delete keys to completely remove it.

I wish I could get the little f'ers that write these things in a room, tied down to a chair. All I'd need would be wire cutters and a pair of regular pliers. Bye bye toe/finger nails... one at a time... slowly.
