ToDO.. got the same problem but with a 95.. i thnk i wheel bearing out not the front diff like i originally thought.. front brakes never worked on mine so heck with them.. rear brakes work good. motor and trans are strong as an ox.. tires are worn but not out and hold air good... i was asking 1550 with the new part in box.. think i may sell the diff on ebay or just hold it.. and put some new bearing in front.. and ride it..
IMHHO i think this is the best bike honda ever built next to the 300.. its a toss up as which is better..

Ya they are good bikes. I put 8,000 miles on mine without doing anything but change the oil every 100 hours. Even completely sank it out at the winery one year. Matt took it to Brent's for me this afternoon to get a tuneup.

How many miles do you have on it? I have a little over 600 on mine and it only backfires every once in a while... maybe once a month.

Probably less than 50 mi. I got the manual shift so no odometer/speedometer. Mine only does it when I'm going fast and let off the throttle too quickly.

Re: ATV Decision
I just got a 2008 - 420 from Abernathys in Union City. $4694.00 out the door. I looked high and low and cound not find anyone who could beat that price...
Mine doesn't backfire or at least it has not yet, but keep in mind I don't do much riding on it. Just in and out of a duck hole in the river bottom. Maybe a mile each way.

Ah... I got the electric shift. Didn't want the ES but I did want the odometer and speedometer. Once the 420 is broken in it'll backfire very little.
Re: ATV Decision
if your dealer has a dyno they can remap the fuel curve if they can "program" you will pick up hp. and torque, and guess what no more back fire. 2008 rancher 420 es on 26" itp ss112 and mud lites works great

Yep, if you want a honda you won't find it cheaper than in Brookhaven and if you want a Yamaha go to Laurel.
