Actress Pamela Anderson Urges KFC Boycott

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Pamela Anderson (news) joined an animal rights campaign against fast-food chain KFC on Thursday, urging a consumer boycott of the franchise until it ensures better treatment of its chickens.

"If people knew how KFC treats chickens, they'd never eat another drumstick," the Canadian-born former "Baywatch" beauty wrote in an open letter circulated by the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The letter was addressed to John Bitove, chairman of the Toronto-based company Priszm Brandz, which owns the Canadian franchise to KFC, a division of Yum Brands Inc."What KFC does to 750 million chickens each year is not civilized or acceptable," she wrote. "I am calling for a boycott of all KFC restaurants until my friends at PETA tell me that you have agreed to be kinder in your practices."

A Priszm Brandz spokeswoman, Alessandra Saccal, dismissed claims that the chickens sold in its KFC outlets are mistreated.

"We purchase our chickens from the same place that grocery stores and other restaurants purchase their chickens from, and the chicken farmers of Canada are very responsible and take the welfare of animals very seriously," she said.

In July, PETA filed suit against KFC, accusing the company of making misleading statements on its Web site regarding how the chickens it sells are treated. PETA contends that the chickens KFC buys from suppliers are abused through drugging, feeding and slaughter practices.

Anderson is not the first celebrity to join PETA's cause against Louisville, Kentucky-based KFC. Former Beatle Paul McCartney (news) appealed to the fast-food chain in July to ensure better treatment of its chickens in a PETA ad.

what's the problem???! I think that drugging those chickens before you gut them alive is very humane. I have one word to describe her.....sheisadumbass (but a foxy little one at that;))

I don't eat at KFC very often but I will be stopping in this weekend. What kills me about this crap, is that PETA reports this crap and they buy it as the gospel hook, line and sinker. Guess they have never heard of negative campaigning. The other sad thing is that she is not even that hot anymore and is quite the bad actress. Just noting but a trashy whore in my book that ought to go back to Canada and start speaking French again.

Man, I feel better after that.

Listen guys..... I work in the poultry industry and i can assure you that poor lil chickens are not mistreated.... Those PETA folks are gonna raise enough ruckuss that you will soon be paying a arm and leg for white meat because the industry won't take the hit.. it will be the consumer. it will definitely affect the beef market as well. I've worked with birds from the beginning to the end of their life cycle and even through the processing plant and i assure you ... a chicken has got it made. we need to do everything we can to keep PETA outta the chicken industry.. its only the second largest industry in mississippi, guys!!!
i've dealt with KFC auditors and they are just as strict as anyone else...
i think some high up KFC executive just pissed off the wrong person. PETA is basing there fight on the fact that there are millions of ignorant californian's who have never seen a live chicken and listen to all the $#!+... if you stop eating KFC because of this..... well..... THEN TAKE YOUR ASS ON TO CALI WITH THE REST OF THE IDIOTS!!!

Well I see that I am behind in the times I still thought that PETA stood for People Eating Tasty Animals. Well now if good ole Pam is wanting us good ole boys to quit eating chicken thats fine as long as we stop watching her shows. I'll be the first to say that the first will never happen and the second sure as HE!! won't happen so she can stick a cork in it.

Well, I always thought Pamela was partial to breasts! I can certainly see why lots of people would pay a bunch of attention to a chick whoseclaim to fame comes from surgically implanted boobs, the fact that she enjoys getting it on with bizarre folks like Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, and has a raging case of Hepatitis. Yep, that's someone I would want as my spokesperson! I'm sure she makes PETA proud! Sheesh!

Beastmaster, poultry is the top industry in MS currently. I know and harbor the same disgust for PETA as you do. But look on the bright side, if PETA keeps getting such upstanding members of our society(Pamela Anderson-Lee-Rock) as their message conveyors, we won't have to worry about them much longer.
