Rut in Yazoo

Rut in Yazoo

I hunt just south of Yazoo City when does the rut kick in? Mainly duck hunt but thought about hunting some of the bucks this year.

They say the first full moon in December, but you really have to get out there and see what's happin

They have a mean conception date map on MDWFPs website. I can send you a link if you cant find it. Are you going up there this wknd?

just place your mouse in the genereal area of where you hunt and don't move it, the date will pop up next to the pointer...

Most deer behavior studies have shown that hunter- observable rutting activity peaks about two weeks prior to the mean breeding date. Therefore, this quest becomes quite simple for the hunter, who simply subtracts about two weeks from the mean conception date in his area, to obtain the simulated peak rut period.

The pre-rut is when you see deer behaving agressively. Grunting, chasing and such. The actual rut, he is laid up with a hot piece of booty and doesn't move unless she does.

Bonehead got to much going on around here looking foward to Nov. and first frost want to get on the tree rats. Love to take the 22 and enjoy a morning hunt.

I know the feeling as far as having a ton going on. I am cautiously optomistic about the amount of hunting I get to do this year. :wink:
